How do I reset the comp and when do i reset it, before or after installing the chip? Is there any mods that have to be done before installing the chip....fuel pump, more air, exhaust?? I made sure the numbers matched(B9B1)and the contacts are perfect. It has writing in Black marker on the Chip.In the left corner it says B9B1,the right corner says F/S, the left bottom corner says Middleton and the right corner has the date 1/17/2000.
Ive tried installing it and the car had more power but the motor pinged like crazy after about 4,500 rpms.
I'm basically at the point of anger, cause it teased me with the pickup but has the pinging.
Any kind of help, ideas or anything would come highly appreciated.
Thanx

To reset the computer, simply disconnect the negative battery cable, then do something to drain any excess power in the system (like turn on your headlights, or press your brake). Then, install the chip. Reconnect the negative battery cable, and start the car. If it continues to ping above 4500 RPMS, you can try using octane boost, or higher octane gasonline. If it continues to ping with octane boost and 93 octane fuel, you may want to get the chip reprogrammed. Or... you can use 101 octane fuel from Sunoco, but that stuff costs like $4.00/gallon.

You shouldn't need to do any other modifications to the car before installing the chip. You do, however, want to make sure that the car is in new, or like-new condition mechanically before trying to do any power adding modifications. This means, make sure all the 60K maintanence has been done.

thanx for the info, Was wondering if the chip is really worth installing. Someone today was telling me all it does is advance the timing, which could hurt in the long run. Was wondering your opinion on the superchips. Also im getting a sho shop y-pipe put in and possibly a custom cold air intake. Will this mess up the chip also???
Thanx again for your input

As long as it's not pinging or knocking, advancing the timing shouldn't hurt. As for adding the y-pipe and CAI, they shouldn't do any harm either.

My opinion on the superchip... being as you already have it, you may as well use it, but if you plan to get serious about modifications to your SHO, the LPM is the only way to go, and Ted Breaux ( [email protected] ) is the man to talk to. $200.. free lifetime reprogramming... his work is great.

well, i tried reinstalling the chip exactly the way you said and the pinging was still there...Oh well, i give up on it...lol..Anyway the chip not working is no big deal. Im actually gonna post it to see if anyone wants it. I appreciate the time and I'll definitely keep that guy in mind if I decide to go big, which is kinda in the works.
Im in process of the y pipe and Intake, but have a bid up on Ebay for a Zex kit.So if that all goes well Ted will definitely be hearing from me.
Oh I guess I'm not going that big, but its definitely a start...lol

ummmm.......i didnt do that, but im afraid to put it back in for a third time. The car feels like it runs worse and worse both times i had to pull the chip out.
But I did not know about the contact grease, i thought thats what its there for. I didnt think it would hurt it.I feel like a shit.Oh well...one learns something everyday.
We'll see what happens.
Thanx for the info.

The grease on those contacts is dielectric grease, it is supposed to be there to prevent corrosion, it doesnt affect anything the chip is made to do.
