Last night, I was making a turn on slightly wet roads, experience just a tiny lil bit of wheelhop and the car kinda stuttered for a moment...check engine light blinked at me, but then everything smoothed out. Lasted for about 1/2 a second. It was fine after that, so I didn't think anything of it and moved on.
About an hour later, the car was idling in front of a customer's house, started popping and coughing, and finally died. I was confuzzled, to say the least. Sooooo, I got back in the car, re-started it, and it fired right up. I pulled into someone's driveway to turn around, and it started stumbling again...I fed it some gas to keep it alive, and it almost sounded like the timing had gone to shit. I got about 1/4 a mile up the road when it died again, coming to a stop sign. I was doing about 10mph, so I slipped the clutch in 2nd to re-fire it. It ran briefly and then stalled again. This time, it wasn't so easy to fire. And when it did, it was VERY ****** off about running. Made a turn, got about 100 meters and the friggin thing died again. This time, no start at all. So I started some self-diagnoses on the side of the road....tach working while cranking? Yep. Is it flooded? Floor the gas and crank for 10 seconds and let go of the gas...no start..no change in ANYTHING...okay. Fuel pump working? Yep. it's makin noise back there. Reach up in the glove box and pull the chip. Fires right up. Runs like a champ. What the F*&$???????
Now, the Chip was secured in there pretty good. Larry from FPS laid several nice beads of solder down on the connectors before it was installed a year ago, and I had a healthy piece of duct tape holding it in place. I"ve never had a problem with a loose chip causing any problems. So could it be that the chip either lost the program or somehow went kerflooie? It's a FPS tuned Superchip, if that makes a difference...
help?
