Last night, I was making a turn on slightly wet roads, experience just a tiny lil bit of wheelhop and the car kinda stuttered for a moment...check engine light blinked at me, but then everything smoothed out. Lasted for about 1/2 a second. It was fine after that, so I didn't think anything of it and moved on.

About an hour later, the car was idling in front of a customer's house, started popping and coughing, and finally died. I was confuzzled, to say the least. Sooooo, I got back in the car, re-started it, and it fired right up. I pulled into someone's driveway to turn around, and it started stumbling again...I fed it some gas to keep it alive, and it almost sounded like the timing had gone to shit. I got about 1/4 a mile up the road when it died again, coming to a stop sign. I was doing about 10mph, so I slipped the clutch in 2nd to re-fire it. It ran briefly and then stalled again. This time, it wasn't so easy to fire. And when it did, it was VERY ****** off about running. Made a turn, got about 100 meters and the friggin thing died again. This time, no start at all. So I started some self-diagnoses on the side of the road....tach working while cranking? Yep. Is it flooded? Floor the gas and crank for 10 seconds and let go of the gas...no start..no change in ANYTHING...okay. Fuel pump working? Yep. it's makin noise back there. Reach up in the glove box and pull the chip. Fires right up. Runs like a champ. What the F*&$???????

Now, the Chip was secured in there pretty good. Larry from FPS laid several nice beads of solder down on the connectors before it was installed a year ago, and I had a healthy piece of duct tape holding it in place. I"ve never had a problem with a loose chip causing any problems. So could it be that the chip either lost the program or somehow went kerflooie? It's a FPS tuned Superchip, if that makes a difference...

help?

Given the electronic nature of both the EEC and the Superchip, and having personally experienced a variety of problems with several flash-based EEC devices, I can safely say that the contents of your Superchip may very well be corrupted.

That said, I have three quick questions for you:

- Have you inspected the J3 edge card connector for any deformities or other problems?
- Have you tried running with the chip since you pulled it after the original incident?
- Do you have any pictures of the soldering work that was performed on the J3 connector?

try reinstalling it and if it gives you the same problems call superchips they will probably help you, I had similar problems with a hypertech programmer, it actually lowered my revlimiter to 4200rpm and when i took the program off, my stock rev limiter was changed... perminitly. It was wierd but after a while the truck it was on relized it could rev higher and fixed itself (disconnecting the battery didnt work). Wierdest thing iv ever seen but id say its definitly possible it could be the chip:thumb:

I've checked the puter and the chip to see if anything got lodged in there or if it were dirty or warped or something....nuffin. Nice'n clean, no sign of water or dirt, and the grease was all cleaned off before Larry at FPS installed it.

Not yet, cuz i'm certain the problem won't be repeated...but I kinda like the way my car's running right now...the dead spot before 4k in 2nd is gone, the large cloud behind my car at 6k during WOT runs is not present, and damned if I'm getting better fuel economy...

No, cuz my camera sucks and I didn't have it on me when I took the ECU out to inspect it....and I'm too damn lazy to pull it out again. What would this have to do with anything? None of solder lines are crossed or anything...
