it starts right up when you jump it. but when i try to start it with out a jump nothing at all turns on, not any electronics no clicks no nothing.

when i get it running with a jump it will drive fine sometimes. but other times the second i let off the gas its dead.

it seems to idle just at 1k or a tad below at times. is that ok?

i cleaned up the battery terminals, checked the connections and it seems to be fine.

any ideas...

i dont think its the battery because it starts up fine and runs perfectly when it wants to. just randomly it wont.

But in your OP you say you always have to jump it. I guess it could be alot of things, loose connection, bad ground, Ignition switch etc. Idle seems ok.

Everytime you disconnect the battery or it dies the computer has to relearn itself which is causing your high idle. As for the car not starting sometimes I would check the wires at the starter make sure they are tight and clean them.

I also vote bad battery. Which is probably caused by a bad alternator. One being bad will very quickly make the other bad too.

yeah... dude, own a SHO long enough and you learn to keep a friggin' stockpile of batteries and alts. Between my two cars, I have two alts and three batteries - and those are the ones that aren't in a car. The number goes up to 4 and 6 if you count those!

then it might be a loose connection. Check the battery, the starter (both the hot side and the big ground lug) and the b+ cable at the alternator.
