So my 95 MTX is having an issue. Over the past few days I'd go to start the car, push in the clutch and turn the key, i'd get power, all lights on, no crank. So i'd let out the clutch, try again and it would work just fine.

This went on for a couple days.

Today, nothing, lights turn on but no crank whatsoever; So I tried to pop start it and that worked just fine.

So....is there anyway it could be the battery or charging system if I get power everywhere else in the car?

If not.....is it the starter? What else could it be?

I jacked it up and fiddled with the ignition cable, started up. So i turned it off, dropped the car...and it wouldn't start again... Do dying starters randomly start working?

$50 bucks it's a wiring problem... check the connections to the battery and the wiring to the starter... there are a bunch of threads on here about replacing the batt cables which includes the ground and the pos to starter connection...

Nope....starter...Gauranteed. Have it rebuilt or carry a small hammer with you.

Tapping it with the hammer will make it work...at least for a while. Preferably, tap it while someone is on the key.

So it's not likely the neutral position sensor? or whichever it is that detects that the clutch is pushed in before enabling the ignition?

Not if it clicks or buzzes or works intermitently. Well...maybe the last one.

It's your starter.

So where's a good place to get a new motorcraft starter? The duralast ones at autozone sounds really high pitched and irritating.
