Well, about a month ago my son decided to reshape the front of my SHO against the back of a pickup truck. He perfectly centered the plate to the truck's hitch:



Bumper cover and grille cracked, both headlights broke internally, impact bar bent and radiator support cracked. The condenser and radiator got bent in but luckily they didn't break.




Didn't want to go through insurance as the damage is not structural and parts can be easily swapped. Insurance here is crazy expensive and if I put a claim in, his insurance would go above the $500/month mark.
Found all the parts from another 2010, same color so hopefully I don't have to paint the bumper. Got new headlights which were already burnt and foggy by the sun.
Took it apart last night and replaced the rad support. This thing is made out of fiber glass so now I'm all itchy...

I'm glad nobody was hurt and that's awesome you can fix it yourself, because yeah... insurance is super expensive, especially for these cars.

at a shop getting the PTU that BG treatment. Went to four different dealers and three said the won’t touch it, and the last one said they would, but would have to take the PTU out. I pulled up the drain and fill through the fill hole procedure from the Ford manual on my phone, and they didn’t budge. So the only way they’d do it is by ripping me off basically.

I figure the BG service will give me a much better starting point for future fluid changes I do myself since they’ll actually be able to get more of the old fluid out, and they only quoted me $108 so compared to the headache of trying to do it on jack stands, well worth it to me. Plus this will buy me time so my buddy can get his lift delivered and operational in his pole barn so I can use it for future changes.

Had em save some of the old fluid which I will be sending to black stone.

So looks like they put the BG oil in my PTU instead of the amsoil I brought. The service advisor told me when I got there that using my own oil would void the BG warranty. I said “ok, that’s fine.” Apparently she thought I meant ok as in use the BG fluid to keep the warranty.

I looked it up and the BG fluid for transfer cases they used is 75w-80. How swiftly do I need to change this, or am I alright? I was planning to change it again regardless in about 10-15k miles. I don’t track the car. Mostly DD with spirited driving here and there, and the occasional dragy run just for ***** and giggles. Apparently BG was consulted (I’ve sent them an email myself to confirm) and they said that their fluid is compatible with this vehicles PTU.

This is why I hate taking my vehicles to shops.

Edit: made some calls and got ahold of the BG rep in my area to confirm that it is compatible…but still. Might just swap it this weekend anyway since I’m a top tier pessimist.

Edit 2: thanks to some guidance from @Jordan_R , I found out the rat bastards did in fact use the wrong oil, and is not in fact “compatible” as BG does have fluid for ford PTUs that is 75w-140. He was kind enough to provide me with a screenshot of the BG technician app stating as such. So I will be contacting the shop tomorrow and getting it squared away. I’m glad I trusted my gut and dug deeper into this “it’s compatible” nonsense.

They ****** up for sure, but ultimately I blame myself for being lazy and not just doing it myself.

once you learn how to change the ptu fluid it's not that bad. I do it when I do an oil change and tire rotation. The only tough part is you have to pull the rear down pipe. Just remember to put ani seize on the turbo studs so it will be easier to get off next time. Get a pump that fits into the bottle and screws on.

Well i hit a bambi today. Doing little over 60mph. Tore out my inner fender well and all the fluff (Free weight reduction). Pulled the bumper down. Ripped the hole. I put it back up with 2 washers as the hole now. Made the sho badge on the side fly off. I found it in a field near by. But the clips are broke. Ill solder new clips on to it as its just plastic. It pulled the gray trim from in front of the door down. I have to figure out how that one works. And it pulled the gray trim off the bottom of the bumper. Broke the running light but it still works. I wanted to buy a pi bumper anyway. More of a nudge to do it now. All and all i guess i got lucky. Ran bambi over. It was 50 miles from home so it drove fine but i may have to look under it and get an alignment when i buy new tires soon. It feels fine but you never know with these electric racks.

Things like this make me nervous to ever let anyone touch my vehicles in a shop I can't be present the whole time. It isn't that hard to check a vehicles fluid specs, that's just plain lazy

Thank God I purchased a Ford Premium Warranty.

Last month I noticed my A/C wasn't blowing cold and was very weak flow on the passenger side of the vehicle. I took it to the local dealer for diagnosis and was advised that they would need to remove the seats, center console and dashboard - a 9.5 hour job - to diagnose what they suspected was a blend door. Provided that the blend door or other similar part was the culprit, my warranty would cover it. Luckily that was the issue. Also lucky was that the parts were available.

Unfortunately, while removing the interior, they damaged a door, necessitating a trip to a local body shop. the job all in took nearly 3 weeks, which was fine, as I had a nice courtesy car. Total bill was just shy of $3900.00. $700 in various parts and the rest, labor. They even waived my deductible. As the warranty only cost me $1361.00, I'm pretty happy.

Re-did my exhaust setup. Was so nice having my resonator on v-bands, literally had it out in less than 5 minutes. Even with a two foot glass pack resonator (Thrush) it was raspy when you get on it and had a pretty bad drone. So I got not one but two Vibrant ultra quiet resonators & welded them together. I tried one and it’s kind of crazy how much of a lower rumble/growl it made it. A lot of the reviews stated that but that was all V8 cars and figured it wouldn’t do it to something like our little V6s. I didn’t want to add a “muffler” as I wanted a straight through exhaust setup. I then re-did my exhaust side exit now that I got the correct elbow. Also should be getting my tires this week so I should be able to slap on my new rims & hopefully do my coilovers.

Heard back from black stone today about the factory PTU fluid sample I sent them. Much to my surprise, after 63k miles, it was in relatively decent shape. I’m still going to change it at least every 12k miles going forward, but it’s good to know it isn’t falling apart yet haha.

Installed the UPR. Next will be the noisemaker delete when it arrives. Waiting on powder coating I guess. I’m going to walnut blast the valves to start fresh, and hopefully stay relatively clean with the catch can.
Still haven’t decided if I want to just take it in, or buy the whole set up and do it myself. Looking at it, it doesn’t seem like it would be very difficult at all, just not sure about the cost effectiveness of buying the equipment. Unless I wanna do some walnut blasting on the side haha
