Well I just purchased a 93' MTX and I'm baffled as to a few problems left. I bought the car with the CE light on, and pretty horrible oil in the plug wells. So I pulled everything apart, replaced the valve cover and plug well seals replaced spark plugs, swapped the whole intake system from my white plus (clean and all sensors work), and then also replaced the 02 sensors and did the idle reset. It runs a million times better than it did but it still doesn't run like a SHO should. I no longer have any warning lights flashing so I dont believe there are any stored codes and the motor was pretty clean inside when I had the valve covers off so the oil had been changed on a regular basis. The thing just lacks down low power and isn't smooth in power delivery. When the secondaries kick in it feels almost normal but than starts dropping back off and takes foirever to climb RPM's. Now the only other things I can think of are plug wires and fuel pump. The fuel pump is pretty noisy but starts right up and seems to run fine. Any suggestions??
To put it into perspective I got beat by Speedy_91_SHO's winter car (red 91' plus) and I don't mean I got beat I mean I got demolished. I may have a hard time beating civics.

You should go ahead and check those codes anyway. You'll never know until you check if there are memory codes. You said you bought the car with the CE light on. Did you check the codes to see what the causal event was? Please say that you did.

A higher rpm power loss can be caused by a fuel, air or exhaust flow restriction. Check the fuel rail fuel pressure, the air filter and those catalytic converters for any loose parts.

Changed the fuel filter today and it's still the same. Exhaust flow is not a problem as there is a SS catless y-pipe and SS exhaust. I'm going to change the coil pack and wires tomorrow and maybe this weekend break down and change the fuel pump. It's just bugging me. I needed to get it together to drive and don't have any valve adjustment tools or parts that is why I did not adjust when the valve covers were off. Would them being out of spec hurt the car this much? It almost feels like it misfires slightly but it doesn't sound like it. It's really weird. I need to figure this out because I refuse to have a slow car. BTW the code in the system was running lean... I was hoping it was oxygen sensors (and the CE light did go off when installed) but I guess it could be the pump then.

The valves being out of spec won't cause marked power loss.

Did you swap the MAF from your white car? What about the BAP? Replace the ECT?

Jim, You know what the problem is it's a GENII and they are just plain slow. Now that you moved over the dark side of the SHO world I can bust your balls on the GENII thing. And then you got beat by a GENI so it all adds up. I'll PM you an actual response in a few minutes.

The MAF was from the white car so I know it should be fine because I just drove it the day before the swap and it was as strong as ever. BAP is what was on there and the ECT was replaced before I got the car.

Dammit Dave when you see the car you will fall in love too. Plus, at least I have yet to own an ATX :***:. Anyways I'm gonna go check your reply and yes I have the visors off the plus in awsome condition.

Well the quest contiues... I put in the new fuel pump (and strainer) and it's still the same, much quieter but performance wise, the same. I'm just gonna have to recheck everything, swap computers and check all the sensors and run the codes. My only other theory (and I'm not even sure if this can happen) but if the knock sensor is screwed, could it possibly retard the timing to an extreme low level and **** performance?

I've heard of this happening but that is kinda a rare thing.
