Schultz Ford has thrown in the towel. Three times in the past they found the problem (car runs for a second, then shuts down): once
a bad ground at the battery, once they replaced the ccrm, and once
they found another bad ground but wouldnt tell me the location. This time they had the car for two months and have given up and now I have to tow it out.
They did NOT charge me even though they put in another new ccrm.
Not sure what to do now...any way to direct wire the fuel pump?
Anybody know a wizard of a mechanic in western PA?

Is it electrical in nature? There are a few local car electric specialists for cases that require digging. I assume there should be some in your neck of the woods also. However this is not normal work and diagnosing can get expensive.

I had one repair a clockspring with solder and huge magnifying glass years ago. Used replacements weren't working. The elder boss had to do it as the flunkys weren't as skilled.

Definitely electrical in nature. I'm not giving up and will do some scouting around for a shop that is willing to take on a challenge like this. RATS!

Dan, update when/if you get somewhere. This irritating stuff is interesting- just to look at what can fail and how to find it. Even on a frankencar like yours.

...Whatever system would be on a 96 GL wagon I'm assuming. Were there PATS variants?

Yes. I do not pretend to be up to speed on the GL series, but the SHO series had a change in PATS between 1997 and 1998. 96/97 are same, 98/99 are same but different from earlier cars. Different key protocols among other things.

Obvious but got to say it, No PATS, no start. Wrong PATS parts = key not recognized. Dead PATS module = same result. I have sold a few steering columns with keys and PATS module for just such a reason.

I am surprised they took on a SHO engine swapped car in the first place. If you can find a pretty good specialist they can be worth paying like many other professionals.

...from the description of the repair from the receipt:
"...Had to remove ash tray and some trim to get to module for testing. It appears that someone has done some bypassing or tapping in wires for a possible old remote start. One of these wires came unclipped. Put the wire back and it runs."
