They won't admit it, but I literally made a buddy sell his FBO E85 Gen1 Coyote after I pulled from him from a roll before the upgraded turbos. Had to start offering up baked goods races when people wouldn't dig. Still got them. Once you get an XDI35 and what not the top end of these cars gets decently nutty.

I haven't paid much attention to SHO timeslips lately. They must be faster than any that run at my tracks. Yes, about any Mustang with a manual is fair game. Their gearing is all wrong and their performance is very much dependent on driver skill.

If you go up against one with the 10 speed auto, you better have a pretty exceptional SHO. Bone stock 10A Mustangs run high 11s in decent air. Tune only and tires put them in mid/low 11s. More bolt-ons or forced induction easily make them 10 second machines or even quicker. With the right tires, 60 foot times are in the 1.5- 1.7 range depending upon mods so they aren't exactly lacking from a dig, either.

I definitely agree with you.

Unless the driver doesn't know what he's doing, I don't see anything else but tall tales. I've ridden in 4 different mustangs and dragy shows anything from 11.8 to 12.3 with just a tune. Ive been over 170mph as well. that's on the street, imagine the track...... I need some video evidence to see if it's the driver or charity.

Here the gist...

On the street(aka stop light to stop light) from a dig the Mustang is gonna lose to a tuned SHO. Simply due to traction issues vs an AWD car

From a roll 95% of the SHO’s are gonna get their backsides handed to them if it’s a 2/3rd gen coyote... on a highway pull it’s even harder...

Look at the track slips...your average Mustang driver is gonna eat it on the short end but past the 1/8 on the big end they make up a lot...

I have recently test driven several gen 3’s... I can attest that the MT version feel anemic compared to my 11 second SHO.. the Auto though keeps that coyote right in the sweet spot and just pulls...

Tall tales are great when accompanied by moonshine and a fire pit though... always fun!

Nailed it. Unfortunately manual transmission technology cannot keep pace with automatic, so I consider manual for driver enthusiasm only.

"I outshifted that auto!" Said no manual owner ever.

I agree. Auto cars are amazing, however they miss the raw input of a manual car. Hence why two out of the three cars I own...are manual. Lol.

If I want a fun car, I get a manual. It’s not always about how fast a car goes down a straight line...

Yep, going through some of the local back roads with the Mustang today was fun -- a quick outing to do a "drive-by" recognition of a friend's 50th birthday. My comment was "I brought my 5-oh to celebrate your 5-oh!" He's a Cadillac driver, so any time I can put the SHO or the Mustang in front of him, I take advantage of it.

I beat many MT Mustangs with my tuned MKS and Continental....especially from a dig. However, they frequently didn't have the appropriate tires. Slap a set of street legal DRs on an A10 Mustang and see the difference that makes. Are tuned SHOs turning in 1.5 second 60s these days?

I fear no Mustang in the street light to street light grand prix.
I look for them. Seems the only time I ever find them is when the ole lady is sitting shotgun. Takes away a little fun knowing I'll catch an ear full as I launch past. Still doesn't stop me.

These 1/8 mile results are not from my car. Timeslips are from a friend who has an A10 car similar to mine with DRs. My tracks are not open.

That is why I am always looking to see if a Mustang always has a DR on it. If it does, it definitely gets more interesting.

For the numbers: a mustang weighs around 3900lbs and usually pulls 1.9 second 60ft times, this means you can win the launch but good luck as you approach 1/8th mile or less.

Where the SHO shines is primarily road tripping with the occasional shock for the unsuspecting. As a track car.....bring your wallet.

I beat a lot of cars 0-60mph in my SHO, and I ran it over 150mph although it wasn't comfortable at high speeds. I mostly enjoyed daily driving it for the comfort of lots of options.

I recently purchased a 2018 f150 and it feels as quick as my SHO was.
Curb weight is around 4400(similar to the taurus). But it lacks the daily driver comforts. If someone ever fixes the drivetrain issues, I'd buy another SHO.

I'd like to say be careful out there and keep sharing stories! I enjoy reading them and living vicariously through others!

My car is somewhat special. It leaves on the street just as hard as it does on the track IMO. That being said High On Ethanol is correct.

Street light to street light my SHO is a ripper. A new 5.0 with a A10 tuned or not is usually not a problem. From a roll..different story. Usually there isn't enough of road to dig out 1/4 mile run, which is to my advantage.

At the track, I leave them and can hold them off until the 1000 - 1100 foot mark. With turbos and an XDI that would be different, however at this point for the SHO it isn't in the cards.

I'm curious to see how your new project pans out. What types of goals do you have?
I am going to shoot for 700whp and some suspension upgrades as soon as the overtime picks up and holds steady.

The new project is pretty much done on the current set up. 2jZ-Gte with VVTi with air being supplied by a 67 mm turbo. With our craptastic 91 octane it already makes more power then my SHO in both HP and TQ departments. On 12 psi she put 440/540 to the tire, only spinning her to 6400 rpm. My SHO 391/494 to the tire. The IS even with the turbo swap and wide body kit, already weighs almost 900 to 1000 lbs less then the SHO as well. So...

For the turbo to really shine, she needs cams. Better cams and better fuel...we all know a 2J can touch 700 hp without really much effort. I think a 600 hp and 700 tq set up will really shine for a 4 door sedan built to be a roll car...

So cams, fuel pump, and re-tune and she should really get down. Plus being a manual makes it even more fun.
