Well it all started on Tuesday after I left work. The climate control started flashing on and off and the clock was going dim. I turned off the radio and then she shut down and we cruised nicely to the side of the road. My buddy comes and gives me a jump, take the cables off and she shuts off. Jump it again for a few minutes and have enough power to drive down the street and park it safely.

Go and get a new battery and she starts up fine and gets me to work the next day w/out issue. Drive home and do some errands and then it starts showing the same problems from yesterday. Leave it ideling while I run in for something at the store walk up to her and she shuts off. Turn key, click, click, click etc.

Hit the steering wheel a few times, she's not accepting that.

So I jump it again with help from my father and we get it running. Seems to be misfiring and has a strong smell of fuel. My father happily noted that it "Seems to be missing a cylinder or two you *******."

Long story short towed it up to my mechanic to hear the end of the SHO.

Other notes: Leaking sunroof for past month, replaced seal and still leaks. Floor behind passenger seat got soaked.

Thanks for any possible ideas.

New alt a month ago.

+1 on the alternator. had alot of the same symptoms on my first sho when the alternator failed. As for the sunroof, sounds like the glass needs to be adjusted.

He said that the gauge cluster went out and that broke a lead that charges the alt. So right now they are looking for a cluster from the junkyard. Then he'll check the alt. May just send this one back to get a new one.

Deff an Alt issue when the climate control goes weird as the voltage reg fails & outputs go too high.
-Check the all the draintubes in the SunRoof. Make sure you see water draining out from underneath. I just removed a large mouse nest in the Rt Frt rocker that was holding water & causing a back up & RUST in the 89! I extended the tube below the body. I just don't believe Ford did not do that in the fronts like they did the rears!! No wonder rocker panels rust out on these cars!!

Thanks. Got a gauge cluster coming. Apparently the lead on the back of the gauge cluster went bad and that caused the alt. to short.

Had them send me a new alt. to replace the other one. Mechanic also cleaned out all the drain tubes. for the sunroof. He said it should be fine now. I'll know tomorrow after all the rain we just got.
