The PO had one installed on my 89. It's near the firewall, of course, looks like it'd been replaced a couple of times unless it was a duplicate line on the repair history.

Basically my blend door actuator is shot and it's stuck on AC (which is what I'd rather have, yay me!) Well, the heat does not work, and I really don't care. Heat in the South is for pansies anyway. I unplugged the actuator as it kept making the loud click-click-click noise.

I'm sure the heater core shut off valve had something to do with the BDA. I tried to look up some info but all I gathered was that by shutting off access to it, your AC can work more efficiently/blow cooler? (does this make sense?) Just wondering what it's purpose is really.

If you don't care about heat being in the south, just reroute the heater line straight from the outlet of the engine back into the inlet of the engine. This will remove any previously installed valve and take the heater core out of the loop entirely.

The valve in your coolant line has nothing to do with your BDA.

The only thing that does is stop the flow of coolant through your heater core.

Your BDA probably failed previously, and the PO installed that valve to stop coolant flow to the HC, so that he didn't have hot air perpetually blowing on him (or her).

The last couple BMW's ive had has them built into the climate control system, to control the flow and temp of coolant in the HC. The valves are electronically controlled in those instances.
