Ford sells these at over $500, they send them to a reman facility and when I was asking about specifics they had absolutely none. I ended up going with a $80 ebay junkyard unit and my hvac has been perfect since.

The one guy on YouTube that repaired one of these said he was not interested in taking in mine to experiment with and possibly repair.
Interested in hearing how it goes

Mine is repaired and being shipped back to me. The culprit was a couple of defective sensors which were replaced. As I've not received it yet, I can't state that it for sure works but I have a warranty. I paid $75 for the used panel and $350 for the repair. Not a cheap fix but I hope it will be a permanent one. I'm debating doing the Sync3 upgrade while I have the dash apart. I'm not sure I want to drop the $600+ on it, though. I'll have some time to think about it since I'll be in Mexico until early May.

Which sensors were defective? And you are paying $350 to repair the used panel?

He did not specify which buttons were bad, but did say the dial was fine. Yes, it was $350 shipped back from them to repair it.

Now that I'm back in the US, I'm working up the nerve to replace this. I swear I bookmarked a how-to video on YouTube, but now I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have the procedure/video handy?

Replaced it today. You have to take off several trim pieces, but not too bad overall. So far, so good. The trim bezel around the screen cracked so I'll be doing some putty and sanding soon. Somehow I had three screws left over.

I lost my hazard button somewhere in there and had to stare at a blinding red led for 2 years, until I replaced the entire unit lmao.
