Oil light started flickering last night, had rod bearings sitting in boxes inside my glovebox. I knew there was no putting it off anymore.
Ripped everything apart no problem, however torquing the caps became a problem because my 3/8 torque wrench only goes to 20 ft lbs, and my half inch drive torque wrench starts at 50 ft/lbs. So I go and buy a 3/8 torque wrench thats rated for 20-250 ft lbs... only to find out the idiot that typed up the package info got it wrong, and put ft lbs instead of inch pounds... so basically the torque wrench was useless and I had to go return it in order to finish the job... Returning the product when your car is torn apart becomes a problem.
then during reassembly I applied RTV on the oil pan then left it to sit and cure a bit while I finished putting the baffle back on. got the baffle on, hand tightened all the baffle bolts and the oil pickup screen nuts... went around and finished tightening all the baffle bolts and then was interrupted by someone.
So I finally get everything back together, pound the inertia switch and bump the engine over a few times to prime the oil pump, and get the oil circulating... however the oil light does not go off. Pulled out the dipstick and the oil was all aerated... I ponder for a few minutes..
then realize oh @#$@ I don't remember tightening those pickup tube nuts!
so off comes the oil pan again!!
Hard lesson learned... fortunately there was no damage done, but still was a PITA doing the oil pan job twice. Sucks how a 3 hour job turned into a 9 hour job.
