Hi,

New to the forum. Got a 93 3.2l and i spun a rod bearing. I guess rod bearings are a common issue with these engines from what i have been reading here. I guess 204,000 was just too much for them! I bought the car for a summer ride, i figured the tranny would go before the motor. LOL. I ordered a set of bearings for it and i am heading the the machinie shop after work to see what he says. I hate the thought of pulling the head to get the piston out. So my questions are:

Whats the chances of a bearing fixing the issue? There is some scoring on the crank, i havent looked at the rod yet...

Since the cap was stuck, i had to tap the bolts from the rod to the cap up through and they dislodged. Will retorquing the nuts reseat the bolts?

Anything else i should so while i am in there?

I really do not want to put the time or money into pulling the heads or crank, because then it becomes the question of where do i stop as far as rebuliding the whole engine, etc. Thanks in advance.

Scoring on the crank from the first incident will only exacerbate the issue with the new set of bearings.

Most likely what you should do is pull the crank, have it turned on a lathe, and install 'undersize' bearings.

For what it's worth, I spun a bearing in my 3.0, and when looking at the options available and the costs involved, I opted to go for a full swap. I could spend about the same amount of money on a whole donor engine that I knew was okay. I'm in the middle of my swap right now.

There are others here with more experience than I have, so wait for them to chime in as well. Good luck!
