If the Quaife works hard enough that the car moves around (i.e., you can tell it's working hard) then taking care of the fluid is important. In the past some people would just change the fluid between track events, which works fine and ATF isn't all that expensive, anyway, or you can run a cooler. I used to run a cooler but a change in the suspension setup has resulted in the Quaife not working very hard any more, and since my motor is stock, anyway, I can get away with no cooler and no frequent changes now.
anyone have data on temps that occur in MTXs?
anyone have trans temp gauges?

my gauge went to 265 and I could usually peg it in the summer in 4-5 laps at road atlanta. never had a problem with shift quality though (by overheating), I usually changed the fluid pretty often.

We Use only AMSOIL ATF, if that cant be found then we run Mobil 1.
Sam, clean the rabbit shit off of the subframe!
I think John H used the redline crap and well his quailfe went to ****.. For other reasons im sure, but I need an excuse to **** on redline and for some reason Ive always hated it..
Maybe because Vadim said it was good and everything from his mouth was a lie!

Actually the Quaife is the only thing that survived out of that transmission!
Just last week I final got the Quaife back for being inspected and refurbished from the factory authorized service center. They installed new helical pinions under warranty due to surface pitting. I was pushing the car pretty good at NHMS and the Quaife was working very hard which resulted in a very hot transmission. The ring gear bolts back out and what we were left with was two destroyed trany case halves and a gear set that was turned into a pile of junk. Pretty scary pictures.
The key is using a high quality fluid, keeping it cool and changing it often if you run on the track. My mistake was not installing the external fluid pump and cooling loop. I used a very high quality Redline AFT, but like any other fluid it can only take so much heat and abuse.
So I just picked up a quaifed trans for.......$500 :woo-hoo: and was just wondering since the stock diff was one of the main reason for running most of the thinner fluids we use, if any trans fluids work best with a quaifed trans or just the same old Amsoil ATF, GM Synchromesh ect ect... :thankyou:
I would like to see the pictures of the destruction.
So you believe that the ring gear bolts backing out caused all the destruction?
Do you think they backed out due to the extreme temperatures? Were your ring gear nuts the nylon locking type?
Hey, Sam. Care to share how that's set up? Where did you run the lines and mount the pump?
Chris K.
Sam didn't run the lines!!! I did.
I think I have several photos of the cooler installation on Sam's car. If anyone still needs them, PM me.
