With a flashlight shining down near the area between my PS pump and serpentine belt tensioner assembly, I can see a small puddle of PS fluid to the right of my PS pump, between the pump itself and the serpentine belt tensioner assembly. I'm surprised it doesn't just drop to the ground, but there must be some sort of surface there (maybe on the bracket that the tensioner puller bolts to?) that allows it to collect.

So.....

What's most likely to be the source of the leak on a PS pump?:

1) The rubber hose hear the top

2) The copper fitting and neoprene o-ring gasket on the left

3) The pump itself.

Let me clarify that this is not a motorcraft pump, but a rebuilt cardone, which kind of makes me wonder if the pump itself is leaking, but I doubt it.

I'm inclined to think it's the o-ring/copper fitting.

Even though the o-ring is on the left side of the pump, and the puddle is on the right, it could be leaking down the left side of the pump, then UNDER the pump toward the right.

I guess the rack could leak too, but I think it's too high up to be the rack.

Has anybody ever had a leaking PS pump before that could offer some insight? I'll drink another beer and hope somebody reads this!

I would suspect the parts in the order you listed them. The reman A1 Cardone is a remanufactured orignal equipment pump - and they weren't Motorcraft made. Wrap a blue shop paper towel around the high pressure hose near the pump and run the engine. Turn the wheel to full lock for just a split second to spike the pressure in the hose. If the hose or pump discharge fitting is leaking, you will see it on the towel. If the pump shaft is leaking, you should be able to see that with the drip trail.

That's good advice...I'll also try the same for the copper fitting. I think the rubber hose is fine. It's as dry as a desert on top of the pump where the neck of that fitting meets the pump that the hose connects to.

Where does the stainless steel line go that runs from the copper fitting? To the rack?

Is a replacement line hard to find if I discover that's the culprit?

Theres alot of ppl here have those parts for alot cheaper.

But id get new copper rings @ local parts store.

They are intended for single use only.

You would actually purchase a new copper fitting?...the thing that screws into the side?

Wouldn't I have to replace the stainless steel line that connects to it? If so, would I get it from Ford, or would I have to get it from a hardware store?
