I started installing the new water pump today. I have a question though. I am finding conflicting torque specs for the water pump retaining bolts. I found a listing on this very forum that says the water pump retaining bolts are torqued to 12 to 16 Foot pounds, same for the pulley tensioner bolt.
In the diagram I have, it doesn't have specs for the actual water pump retaining bolts but says to torque the tensioner pulley bolt to 71 to 106 Inch pounds. So if the retaining bolts and the tensioner pulley bolt have the same torque spec then the retaining bolts would be 71 to 106 Inch pounds also.
12 to 16 Foot pounds is 144 to 192 Inch pounds so what gives. That's a huge conflict in torque specs so which could it be? Also 144 to 192 Inch pounds is a lot of torque on those small bolts and I do not want to strip or break anything that's for sure. In the diagram, "C" is the pulley bolt torque spec. 4f9255b799f12461557133bcf99918d6Eb0491df34ad080d4f939f5ed0ae3b9d1ffa38717bb0aed8988122f6d9eb47af0dd5fce8f84cbd930f151527fe6683475b338b8afbb8f8b396eff50c9fbc2a08

Or, are they saying the "water pump retaining bolts" are the 2 long bolts that are "A" in the diagram? That would make sense. If so, then what would be the torque spec for the 5 bolts that attach the water pump to the housing? I don't see those specs anywhere.

Okay I got everything back together last night. I just now filled the system with water and applied pressure with my pressure tester kit and, yep, found another leak. It is dripping pretty good from the outlet pipe which is #1 in the diagram. There is a part # listed in the diagram but I am having a tough time finding one. Any suggestions or unicorn parts suppliers are welcome.

At least it is easy to get at. It is leaking where the metal pipe goes into a fitting where it transitions to a rubber hose. Worst case, I guess I could cut the hose part off and replace it with another rubber hose and clamp it but I would really like to replace it with a new one because that lower smaller ( vertical) hose didn't look so hot either. 19e30ac2daab2379260c5e20d69de51482b934294cd77e64c5a598aa04c03a26405e8761e9e6e50437e97529c143996c

Sometimes I have a bad habit of over thinking things a bit. Why stress out about trying to have that "tee" pipe/hose monstrosity of an outlet pipe made when I can just get a suitable "tee" and some hose, a couple of clamps and be done?
I measured the inside diameter of the large rubber hose and also the outside diameter of the metal pipe to verify they match, 1 1/2 inches for each. I then measured the inside diameter of the smaller hose to be 3/4 of an inch. I found an aluminum "tee" that will work for those measurements. There are plastic ones of the same size but I figure, pay a little more for an aluminum one, it should be more durable. Next step, get a 4 1/2 inch long piece of 1 1/2 inch ID radiator hose and a 3 1/2 inch long piece of 3/4 ID heater hose cut to fit, clamp with appropriate compression clamps, fill with water, pressure test it, hopefully no leaks and be done!!! Fingers crossed.

Sidenote: Why did Ford have to make that thing so complicated? Ce00ee207f63f114ce1f4b7d29a8b756D382a61caeb18225375e20dd910e7d121c8e60b4ce722eb1dfd7ead2d2f6c7eb

Update. Never thought trying to find a piece of radiator hose with a 1 1/2 inch ID would prove to be so dang difficult. The local parts places around here don't carry something that large other than Advanced Auto Parts who had a straight piece, sold by the foot, but it was super stiff with wire reinforcing and just wasn't going to work. So to the interwebs I go and have a 4 inch straight piece of silicone radiator hose with the correct ID on the way. Man this has been a slow process but I am looking at getting things all back together this week, fingers crossed!!!

I wish I could help you more, but I have a small trail of bread crumbs you might follow.

I had a friendly AutoZone store who let me in back to rifle through their radiator hoses.

I found a Subaru hose that had the criteria necessary to cut down to that hose you are seeking. It was a long time ago and I "Think" it was for a Brat model.

Trying to help. I know that hose is a bitch to find or fabricate. Good luck !

Thanks. I ordered a 4 inch long silicone based straight radiator hose that will do the trick. I am expecting delivery of the aluminum "tee" today and I will have everything needed to replace that leaking monstrosity of a hose/pipe combination. Thanks for everyone's help with all of this.

I got it all together this morning, put some water in the system and pressure tested it, no leaks!!! I left the system pressurized for about 15 to 20 minutes with no change on the guage. I was happy with that and drained the system and refilled with coolant. We let the engine idle and go through its cycle and all was good. My son drove the car around for a while and he said the SES light came on but all the fluids were good, no leaks and it was running good, he has the car at his house at the moment and when he brings it back in a day or so, I will put my code reader on it and see what is going on with it. When a car sits around for a few years, things happen, old hoses leak, rubber vacuum hoses crack, y'all know the drill with an old car. I have to keep reminding myself that the car is nearly 30 years old, lol.
