Possibly taking the plunge

Hey all, 5x Gen II former owner considering taking the Gen III plunge. Car I'm looking at needs the following: Front wheel bearing replaced, windshield, and a few coils. (diagnosing shut off at idle sometimes- have replaced some already) What should I be looking to drop for parts for a knuckle (I think I read it was easier to replace the whole knuckle?)

Is $1,700 for a 150K welded '97 SHO decent? Seems cheap to me at least...

Due to a recent development (no paperwork) I'd like to pull a VC to verify the welds first- how long and what tools should I have out of the ordinary...?

You need some metric sockets and a couple minutes. Pull vanity cover, remove coils, move harness, remove valve cover, inspect.

You have to put some gasket compound on the factory valve cover gasket in two spots (?) I think.

Not that hard to do.

Be careful when pulling the vanity cover off. There are little brass inserts that protect the plastic from getting crushed by the retaining bolts. These like to fall out and you never know where they end up. Take an inventory of them when disassembling things and make sure the same amount are there when you put things back together.

I thing you need a 10mm, 8mm and a small long handled screwdriver if you need to take the AC connector apart to clear the valve cover. A telescoping magnet and long needle nose are a must for V8 SHO owners......
