I did mine a few weeks ago and got my bearings through Napa. I also asked Napa about an oil pan gasket and they handed me a full-fledged, single rubber gasket that supposedly was for the SHO but looked more like the tranny pan gasket for my Ranger. It looked nothing like the two thinner end gaskets that actually come off the SHO pan which, along with the RTV that is used on both sides, constitutes "the SHO pan gasket" as a whole. The gasket package from Napa said nothing about the gasket being for a SHO.

So I said thanks, but no thanks, and ordered the SHO pan gasket through AutoZone, as Scott referenced. It was identical to what comes off the SHO and the Fel-Pro packaging indicated clearly the SHO model and SHO engine, which made me feel good about it.

The Fel-Pro gasket(s)worked great, the whole job went well, and I am glad I took the time to collect the proper parts and tools and to do the job right. The information I got through this forum was of course a big help.

Good luck. thumb

You can get some assembly **** from AutoZone or NAPA or wherever, but really all you need is something "thick" enough to adhere to the bearing long enough to get oil pressure...I've always used some 90W gear oil (or STP :D ) - just a large drop on each bearing as you install it.

-Then disconnect DIS and crank it over to prime system and raise oil pressure before startup.

What about the pick-up tube gasket? Are you going to reuse the one you have or make a new one? Does the Fel-pro kit include this? I just bought the Fel-pro oil pan gasket set, and it didn't have it, but the Front Seal set I purchased last month for my 60k did. Is there any one kit that includes all gaskets needed for the rod bearing change?

If you want a new P/U gasket, you can get the Fel-Pro TCS45871 set which includes another front pan seal, pickup seal and an ill-fitting front main seal.

  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">V6 Rear Oil Pan Seal E9DZ-6723-A
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">V6 Oil Level Sender Gasket E9DZ-6C626-A
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"> I also got a front EXTREME motor mount which is awesome. I was in a bind and he got me out of it with awesome service.

The Fel-Pro oil pan gasket kit does not come with the oil pickup tube gasket. Can't get one from Ford, either (discontinued).

Following the advice of others on this board, I made my own gasket out of gasket material I purchased from Napa. I was able to match up the gasket material (and thickness) very well, and then just cut it out to fit.

Verify the pulley diameter first-hand. Vadim used to sell the 15psi pulley with both the 9psi & 12 psi kits, to spool the boost up faster. He then used 2 different air restriction methods for 9psi (small air filter) & 12 psi (metal reducer sleeve in-line). I found this out the hard way 2 1/2 years ago when I ordered the 12 psi pulley from SHO Shop (paid for it & overnigth shipping), and got the exact same pulley I had, then I ordered one direct from Vortech, overnighted, to discover the same pulley again. :)

Measure & report back man. Good luck with the bearing job, and I definitely want pics. I'm going to be pulling my bearings this winter when the mill gets rebuilt.

The Ford EGR tube gasket fits and can be used in place of the discontinued picup tube gasket (per Josh a SHONut)

You have to hog out the center hole a bit (and maybe the bolt holes, I forget) and it's hard not to damage the graphite material on those gaskets while you are doing that. Much easier to cut your own gasket. Also I don't like the thickness and characteristics of that EGR gasket for the pickup tube. That EGR gasket really wants more torque to squish down good than you can safely supply with the pickup tube nuts without stripping the studs. At least that's just the way it seemed when I was debating whether to use one after I hogged out the holes.
