I have oil coming into my sparkplugs. It still is firing pretty good, but is there a gasket that needs to be replaced? And is that extensive and pricey? This is out of my league, so please help me keep my hot SHO smiling. It's a 1992 3.2L, 5-speed, I think Yamaha did the engine, right?
Thanx.

Yup, you need new spark plug tube seals. In the upper-right-hand section of your screen there is a search function link. If you search under 'oil in plug wells' you will find all the information you'll need about what needs to be done, as well as everything you'll ever want or need to know about the SHO.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Welcome, and yes Yamaha made the beast with the snakes on top! :D I wouldn't worry too much about the wells filling up slowly over time, as long as they don't fill too much/too quickly. But if you do the valve lash adjustment, take care of the gasket then (earlier if necessary).

The Fel-Pro VS50378R gasket set ($71.99 from AutoZone.com) includes the two molded rubber valve cover seals and the six spark plug well seals. You will have to remove the intake and valve covers to replace these, but while you have done all of that work, you might as well adjust the valve gaps.

Mike D. in Azle (see the LSSHOC (Lone Star SHO Club) mailing list in Topica.com) or myself have replaced the seals many times and I have the tools and shims to gap the valves. I don't loan my tools or shims, but you can hire me out.
If you want to replace the seals yourself, I can send you a detailed procedure to do the disassembly.

KMAN,

If you decide that you want to pay someone to replace your gaskets, and or any other engine work, like the valve shim adjustments, you will be well served by SDPATT or anyone he recommends.

If you go to a dealership, be prepared to take out a second mortgage! rangerj

FWIW I am converting my oil leaking '93 3.0L over to a sealed PCV system with a norma PCV valve. This will keep about 7" Hg of vacuum on the crankcase. Should stop any leaking out of the seals. Mine is currently leaking at the front and rear crank seals.
