After a long run, it is time for us to part with our 1994 Moonlight Blue Ford SHO MTX. One of 1,275 made in '94 in the Moonlight Blue color and one of about 2,500 total with the manual transaxle. In short, it is one of approximately 200-300 of its kind made.

Seeing that the car is almost 20 years old, there are some good and bad points, which I will try to list below.

The good:
- Engine runs great, with no mechanical problems at 212k miles
- 60k Service (exhaustive overhaul) was recently performed only 5k ago! When sold, most SHOs are overdue for this service ($$$$).
- 60k includes (new spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, oxygen sensors, camshaft seals, crank seal, intake gaskets, etc.)
- Coolant flush performed at the time of 60k, steering fluid flush and replacement with Amsoil Synthetic ATF
- Majority of body is in good shape for its age
- '96 SHO Front Brake Upgrade (bigger calipers, pads, rotors) for better stopping performance
- Dynomax Catback replaced a few years ago, with even newer muffler replacements
- Hard button climate control (buttons won't crack, an upgrade from a 95 SHO)
- Kenwood CD/MP3 player with aux in cable in glovebox.
- Fully working moonroof, with replacement Contour switch that won't break!
- Battery cables were completely replaced in the last few years and are good for many more years of service.
- Starter is about a year old and works great.
- Oil pan was completely resealed about 3 years ago and doesn't leak.
- Suspension was overhauled around 1.5 years ago, and is nice and tight. All swaybar links, front control arms, struts, springs, strut mounts, and wear parts were replaced.
- Clutch shifts well and pedal feels good - was replaced at around 110k with a SHONut ceramic TOB, which helps extend the life of the pressure plate over the stock Ford TOB.
- Equipped with SHONut Reinforced Front and Rear motor mounts - should be good for a lifetime of service and they won't separate like the stock motor mounts.
- Air Conditioning was recently serviced this past summer, with a leak test and full recharge of R-134a. It works great!
- Other recent new parts: oil pressure sender, thermostat, temp gauge sender, cam position sensor, crank position sensor, water pump, radiator hoses.
- Aluminum subframe bushings for better steering/shifting and sporty feel

The bad:
- Rust spots that will need attention
- Alignment should be checked as the steering wheel sits at an angle.
- Oil leak on one front cam seal that must not have taken. This is the only place AFAIK that is leaking, as all other seals have been replaced.
- Emergency Brake cables have been disabled to avoid rear calipers getting stuck - an unfortunate Ford problem
- Driver seat leather is cracked/torn in a few places
- Steering wheel has some wear on the leather
- Shifting a bit touchy, may need adjustment but the car is drivable as-is.
- One of the rear windows currently doesn't open (bad motor?)

Extras:
- K&N Air Filter
- Spare Moonlight Blue hood in great condition (no rust)
- Seasonal Wheels/Tires
+ Yokohama W.drive tires on silver slicers
+ Yokohama S.drive Z-rated summer tires, on rare white slicer wheels

With all the listed upgrades and extra items - asking $1,200 OBO. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask. The extras can be sold separately, so we're willing to deal even more if they are left behind.

I am available to show the car, and timing is quite flexible. Looking to find this car a new home and free up driveway space!!

Thanks for looking! (Pictures in the next post...)

Here we go - noticed that the thread has been approved. A selection of pics for starters - if there is anything else specific that anyone wants to see - just say the word and I can take some more.

And yes, the interior pic looks terrible - we haven't had a chance to vacuum and touch up the interior yet, but it will be in much better shape soon and I'll snap a few more pics once that is done.

Well, its been a week without any inquiry - hoping to be able to take a look later this week at the brake issue when we get a brief warm spell.

Also guessing that some of the online values I found (in spite of the number of extras) are a bit high, so any offers will certainly be considered.

If there is anything else you'd like to see pics of, let me know!

I am looking for one of these (blue or silver 1994-1995 MTX), but without the sunroof/moonroof.

It is mainly preference. For me, its due to weight, something else to go wrong, etc.....but it isn't just with sho's. My 91 and 95 are both non moonroof cars.

Headroom, rattles, when the seal goes bad it sounds like a tornado next to your head...

Now I'm curious - any reason why you don't want a moonroof?

I am very tall in the trunk, and am sort of cramped in a sunroof SHO. Add a helmet and I am having to lean the seat back far more than I would like.

Good luck with the sale -

Ahh, I had forgotten about the height difference between the two - I'm not tall enough (5'8") that the difference has ever become a factor. Though I have a friend who is 6'7", so I definitely know that he has been limited in overall car choice (regardless of options) due to head room.

I could see how a track car would definitely be better off without - my brother's supercharged '94 is a stripper model, with almost none of the options. Definitely more of a track car!

Thanks for checking in - and good luck in your search as well.

Looks like we're getting a bit of melting - maybe I can finally take a look at the brakes tomorrow - for anyone that is interested but put off by the tow-only prognosis at the moment. :)

Still available, and still waiting on the weather to clear up a bit to take care of the brake issues.... if there is any interest, just let me know!

Car is still here - was finally able to locate the brake leak - front to rear lines right where the clip holds them to the body. Going to get it all fixed up and it should be drivable again!

If I am frank, very few people will cough up $$ for that amount of rust. It's a shame but that's why you haven't gotten many hits.

Thanks for the heads-up - definitely willing to negotiate on the price, it was just a starting point, so if anyone IS interested feel free to make an offer, even if it seems low. To encourage that, I've dropped the price by $500 to $2,000 OBO.

The brake lines will hopefully arrive in a week, and then the car will be able to back on the road. Also keep in mind I do have a better hood that we can swap on that doesn't have rust - doesn't help the body blemishes, I know.

FWIW - Once the car is fixed-up I'll be posting new pictures - vacuumed and shampooed the carpet, cleaned and conditioned the leather and plastics with Lexol products, so it looks a lot better than in the pics.

After a second go, there are no more brake line leaks. Three bad lines were replaced with SHONut stainless replacements.

This might make for a good winter car, given the rust. Pretty flexible on timing and price, so if you are at all interested please let me know. Dropping the price to $1850 OBO.

Again, considering all offers - need to free up the driveway, so let me know if there is any interest. I won't take offense. :thankyou:

BUMP - Car needs to find a new home, it has been sitting around too long.

Dropping almost 25% off the most recent price. Asking $1300 OBO. Make an offer, take a look. Still would make a good winter car or maybe for parts.... surprised that there haven't even been ANY offers at all.

Does the Bowie CD come with it? :D

It's been four long years since my last SHO, and I miss these cars to pieces. If I wasn't still paying on it, I'd offer my '07 Focus as a partial trade deal. But I've got about $4k to go on it.

Good luck with your sale. Sounds like it should run pretty strong for some time.

If you were only closer, I would try to work something out on this car. I am on the market for a Gen2 MTX, and like blue also. Looks like a good price to me. I am certain that the rust can be fixed, as I know some good body men. The main thing would be rust in places where it counts, which I am unaware of where these places are, but every vehicle has places where you just do not want rust. Good luck with the sale.
