When driving in traffic, highway, etc my 89 sho heats up to 3/4 range. The fan comes on then goes down a bit. I changed my thermostat(original ford), temp sending unit, fluids, still the same. Will 180 thermostat do the trick. I heard that 89-95 sho need 190 to operate properly. Could installing a 180 thermostat harm my engine? Any feedback.thanks

Think about how a thermostat works and what it does. It opens when the coolant reaches a certain temperature. If you are having cooling problems and your current t-stat is working properly, a new one isn't going to solve your problem.

it may be that your thermo isnt opening all the way so changing in a new one can help and putting in a 180 deg one cant hurt. Its a good chep starting point to figuring out your problem:thumb:

everybody that i have talked to has said not to use the 180 because it will make the car run lean. my 94 atx runs at about the O and the R in the NORMAL when in traffic and it runs at about the M and the A when rollin on the highway. it scares me but alot of people say that is normal.

Well I ran with a 180 for a long time, and it did run pretty cool. It never budged off the N-O range. And it was very rare that my fan ever came on. I have the 'normal' one now, and its around the R-M, in traffic. But you say yours get hot on the road... should be plenty of air flow to keep it cool. Did you flush your radiator? Maybe something is blocking air flow to it? Dosen't sound like its getting to the 'critical' temps tho.
