On this intercooler you will have clean the threads up with a 1/2'' pipe thread tap and install a 90 degree fitting on the back if you don't want to cut into the fender.

P.s. also before you install it, run some water through the water and air ports. Some of them come with stuff inside it.;)

Tony, thanks for the heads up. I just need to get a heat exchanger now. The OEM Cobra/Lightning units go for way to much on Ebay. I'm thinking of buying an aftermarket one. Anyone have any suggestions??

Some of the SyTy guys are using the Hayden #001810 cooler, it is 4 row header 8"X24" and has 5/8" NPT ends. I had one on my Ty while I still had the A2W intercooler and it did a good job of keeping charge temps cool at 20+ psi of boost.

Another option if the Fluidyne replacement for the Cobra, but it is in the 400 dollar range. Another thing I have seen people use is the tiny radiators out of the honda civic. They have a cap on them and cooling would be excelent. I don't know how well one of these would fit in the grille area of a SHO though.

If you went with something like the Hayden, stock Cobra CCHE or the Fluidyne unit you would also need to have either a reserve tank with a cap for filling or if the intercooler is going to be mounted high and flat you could take the A2W to a welder and have them weld a neck and radiator cap on.

I was thinking radiator too, maybe I'll drop by the local parts store and see if they will let me peruse the radiator section

Edit: I remember reading that Josh said the added radiator in front created an over heating problem... so maybe not.

You'll want to use a radiator designed for cooling water/glycol. I don't think a cooler designed for oil is as efficient for what you want to do.

Just another quick suggestion and I just thought of this. The Saturn Ion Red Line and the Cobalt SS (both supercharged) use a very nice radiator for there CCHE that may fit well with the sho radiator. The inlets/outlets are at the bottom of the radiator and it is fairly thin and low profile.

The ATX cooler is an easy way to start since it just bolts right up.

However if you want to go bigger I'll go with the LFP intercooler over Fluidyne. The Gords is the best but very expensive. You'll have to make custom brackets for it.

You'll also want a tank that you can drain the water out of for putting ice in for those special runs against the Turbo SHO!

Mr. Wilson just an fyi if you go with a bigger cooler you might want to go with bigger water lines.

i am very interested in your project. I know there are few sponsors and what not, offering the aftercooler kit but, i am just wondering if your route is going to be more budget happy??
