Welded at 113K! (spocket had already failed and was free on cam)
Lucky I did it or it would have been a total cam failure.

Do you want to look at just the front, or both?

Front, as difficult as it looks is pretty easy.

I would take the rear off but theres no point since I cant weld, if the fronts not welded than the back isn't. Now if the fronts welded then I will disassemble the intake to get to the rear, remove and clean the butterfly's and LIM, change the plugs and rotate the coils to the front.

But what are the chances of getting an already welded vehicle :nut:

Slim to none :) I thought I too might have been lucky as NESHO did a camfest the year I bought my car, and it had a couple new coils, as well as a new fuel rail.

It wasn't welded though.

i prayed that my car was welded when I bought it b/c its from MA. I figured that NESHO would have worked on it since the car was close to them, but there were no records on their part and the original owner had no idea what cam welding was.

If your buying it from a forum member or someone who know's what they have they should know if it's welded or not. If it's someone who loosely uses the term "it's just a taurus" do you want to buy it from them anyway?
I'm gonna be looking for another gen3 hopfully within the year ( for the boyfriend who wont let me drive now that he's driven my car) and I'm gonna make sure it's from someone who know's what they have and the papers to prove the welds.

Somewhere between $500 and $1000 depending on who does it and other services performed at the time of the weld. Considering what I just went through cleaning my intake manifold(s) I would recommend paying somebody else to do it while they've got it torn apart. :)

my total cost was about $150. I did the mechanical work tearing it apart, hired a good local welder to do the welding, and brought all the intake parts to a machine shop for cleaning.

That's not exactly an exhaustive list. For one, Eric Lehmann does quite a lot of cam welding.

Visit www.V8SHO.com for a more complete list. Though, I wouldn't consider that list infallible, either.

cam welding

i had mine welded at ford performance in GA. including the welding,100k service, sct tunning, andballjoints and sway bar links i spent $2300. but i think the average to get the cams just welded is anywhere from 3 to 5 hundred.

Had mine welded last month at 105k. When Eric had it apart, he could tell that it had most likely failed at some point already. The heads and cams were different, and the cams serial numbers didn't jive. The welds, intake and butterfly cleaning, new plugs, rotate coils, and new oil and filter ran me $550, and was worth every penny.

I have welded my running cars at 62k, 105k, and 140k. The cam failure cars had 192k, 106k and 125k on them when they failed.

There was one recently listed around me with 190k on it and stating that "The cam spun-out and it needs to be replaced".

Mine was done by Eric roughly 2 years ago before I bought it @ 96 or 97k, has 116k+ on it now.

My thought is get the best person with the most qualifications to do the weld and other work needed. They will have the experience.

With that said my 98 was welded at 80K. And my 97 has 135K and has not been welded yet but, is planned.

off topic a bit, but for those of you that had your cams welded and had the intake and butterfly cleaning among other things cleaned out: did your car run better afterwards?
