My sister has a 99 with over 120k. I talk with her frequently about getting it welded. My 96 failed at 106K.

I just got a 97 that belonged to a guy at the place I work. I warned him last summer that it needed to be welded. I gave him this web site along with v8sho.com

He wanted to sell it to me for $4k last summer. I bought it from him for $900 after it had a rear cam failure.

I try to tell every SHO owner I meet about the cam problem. Not too many of them listen.

Edit:
96 has 133k
97 failed at 95k

I person I bought mine from had it let go at 85k, had it fixed and then drove another 60k on the replacement engine without getting the cams welded.

They let go when they let go. There is no set mileage, and the stats on V8SHO even if you average the mileage doesn't give you a clear picture because those only represent a portion of total failures -- those are only the reported failures to the V8SHO site.

We've seen cars with 200K on the original motor, we've seen cars fail with 28K. There is at least one known failure of a brand new car on the dealer lot with under 50 miles on it.

I enjoy gambling as much as anyone, but losing $100 at the blackjack table is a lot easier to deal with than losing $3000+ by putting off something as critical as getting the cams welded.

I was reading your post from that other stupid thread that is now locked (Thank you! haha) about how the sprocket still spun even after welding... Was it a poor weld or is there something that I should know before taking it somewhere? Thanks for your help!

OK all this cam weld question's has me wondering what mine look like, So my question is how do I take my valve cover off to look and see what mine are like. All I really know is that there welded all the way around and not spot welded. Mr. A you think you could give me a few pointers on getting that cover off? Tim said he would help me but he doesn't really know either so if you could shoot me a Pm or something it would be a big help :)

Do you want to look at just the front, or both?

Front, as difficult as it looks is pretty easy.
