good filters

Well from what I've read if you want a really good filter stay away from paper type filtering medium... most popular oil filters at the auto parts store uses the paper type. I've used Napa Gold with uses a better type of medium...some sort of higher grade more efficient fiberglass thats suppose to filter down to less than 1 micron. Amsoil filters are also very good.. generally the more you spend the better quality you get.
As for oil.... Chevron supreme or it's more pricer cousin Delo 400 are highly ranked on the motor oil forums on the internet. Unless you have a well maintained engine with very good seals/gaskets stay away from the snyth oils.

Only motorcraft in mine. FL400S ,the FL1 doesnt fits cause of my headers.

Allthough I used fram filters in most of my DD , theres nothing wrong with them , just change your oil each 3K.

Sorry i disagree about frams, you wouldnt believe how horrible they are, cut one open some time. I work at a GM dealer, and we have changed out numerous fram cartidge filters out of cobalts, (keep in mind we monitor mileage and none were excessive) you can just twist them and they tend to "shatter". Not something i will ever risk to save a buck.

+1 for Motorcraft.

Although I think they're just repackaged Purolator filters. The specs might be a little tighter for the Motorcraft stuff.

OEM Motorcraft here too. Used a Bosch once in a pinch. A long time SHO mechanic who does some of my engine work also recommended staying away from Fram.

What does a Wal Mart filter cost? I'll stick w/ stock for $3.99 each.
I bought a 12 pack of fl400's cuz the wife's Windstar uses them.

ok great lots of opinions...only reason i was even debating on the fram was cause of the article on shotimes.com...i just figured the 4 i posted because of the gpm of the oil pump.want want that can handle those rating and the ones i posted seemed to be the better ones.so the fl-1a motorcraft will work its just larger filter than the 400s that what i thought but just wanted to check....and possibly some more opinions on some different oils?

As far as oil's go, i wouldn't even ask that here because if you ask 10 people, youll get 10 different oils.. I've used Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Valveoline and Castrol GTX and i havn't really noticed any difference in them at all. I like the GTX the best (minus the Royal Purple) because I can smell some ATF smelling chemical in it and in the first two oil changes it got dirty fast, but, now stays clean for the full 3-4k i put on my oil.. To each his own!

X however many for the Motorcraft 400s filter and the GTX oil. I have a 99 Dodge Dakota with 150k on it. At about 100k the oil pressure started dropping to 0 psi while driving down the road. Pulled the oil pan and the only problem we found was sludge in the bottom of the pan. The oil pickup is really close to the pan on this engine. Since I had the pan down I went ahead and changed the oil pump for a new high volumn one. Put it back together and like someone else said the next 2 or 3 change showed dirty oil being drained. Now it is a little dirty but not near as dirty as it used to be.
