First oil change is coming up on my 2017 SHO, I'm thinking of using Amsoil Full Synthetic Signature and either the Amsoil EA filter or the NAPA Gold filter.

I'm just curious what everyone here has used for their Engine, Tranny, RDU, and PTU and how many miles you've driven on your SHO.

What I run and when I change.

Engine Oil: Amsoil Sig Series 0w40 + 50% Amsoil Dominator 10w30 Racing oil. (5w30 recommend unless youre heavily modified and you auto cross)
~7,500-10,000mi or 1year (check level/ condition every month)
5w30 recommend

Oil filter: Wix XP, Purolator boss or Amsoil Ea

PTU : Amsoil Severe Gear 75/110 (75w140 recommend)
30,000mi or 3years (check level/ condition and clean mag fill plug every Oil change)
75/140 recommend

RDU : Amsoil Severe Gear 75/90 60,000mi (check level/condition every 2years)

Trans : Amsoil Sig Series LV ATF 15-30,000mi or 3years with Magnifine in-line magnet filter. (Check level/ condition every Oil change)

Coolant: Amsoil HD Coolant.
60,000mi (Check Level every month, check condition every Oil Change)

Brake Fluid: Valvoline Dot3/4
30-60,000mi (Check level every month, check condition every Oil change)

I recommend Amsoil Severe Gear, Redline shockproof or Valvoline synthetic gear oils. These hold up the best from what I've seen. Royal purple seems fine as well but I don't have first hand experience with it.
Any synthetic even the motorcraft will be fine at the intervals posted.

Amsoil or Motorcraft LV ATF. Amsoil you can run double the interval with no performance degradation vs what you'd run the motorcraft lv. Doesn't turn brown like the Motorcraft.

Amsoil SS, Castoroil Edge/titanium engine oils hold up very well for a long time even under severe duty. I've seen the lowest wear metals and longest runs from my oil analysis with these oils.

If you're using anything else, change sooner if your modded and beat on the car often. I monitor all the oil forums (VW, Ecoboost f150, mustang/coyote, LS, Subaru, etc.) to see what's holding up the best as well. These oils are consistently returning the best oil analysis results.

Amsoil HD Coolant (has oil pump lubricants) feels slick in the hand compared to regular coolants. Water pump job is $1200. Do a full flush if your running the orange Stuff.

What's the rationale for recommending 75W110 in the PTU when the manual calls for 75W140?

I apologise. This is my maintenance schedule. 75w110 isnt my recommendation. 75w140 for PTU and 5w30 in the engine is my recommendation.

I can whole heartedly recommend everything else if the lubricants/fluids stated are used under severe service.

I run 75w110 as an experiment since my downpipes are catless in addition to being wrapped. I've tested 60+ degree reductions in Ptu oil temperatures compared to running stock catted pipes.

Higher viscosity oils tend to thicken as the lighter oil molecules boil off and the viscosity improvers are destroyed, leaving behind the higher viscosity oils and gunk. This is the sludging issue with the stock motorcraft fill.

Interesting info, thank you. That's a pretty substantial drop in operating temperature!

hi guys - lesson learned after watching a you tube vid of oil filter innards comparison - wix - napa gold same - best quality - purolator good - ANYTHING but Fram !!! filter is like toilet paper one way valve thin crap - I went out and gave my civic a hug " no more Frams for you" i'm using castrol edge syn 5-20 and fl500s filter in the SHO - not a race car - my 2 mustangs get lucas magnum ( high zinc 15-40) and FL1A filters

PTU fluid temps really aren't a concern if you don't face special operating conditions during your drives. If your SHO sees a lot of idle time, or a lot of towing/taxi driving, or driving in hot climates, or you take it to the drags at every stoplight, you will definitely want to pay attention to the fluid.

I vote motor craft FL500S, PERIOD. Has proper thingie inside to hold oil for prelude n post **** of timing chain. Good enough for my oil change ritual duration. I use, according to Bobstheoilguy.com site for turbo v6 cars, Castrol gtx MagnaTec 5w-30 (2013 SHO), 19 buckeroos for a 5 qt jug wallysworld!

think everybody has their opinion on the "best" oil . i'd say it's more the frequency of oil/filter changes - especially because there's a history of chain and guide wear . cleaner the better - I might go 3 k miles. that's it -- cheap insurance

I should mention it is not the best oil in which I'd pick Amsoil or Redline....but best for car on an economy budget....

Using Royal Purple API 5W-30 (for warranty compliance per Royal Purple)

For the filter, I use Motorcraft and have used these WIX in the past on my N.A. 3.5L vehicles...

WIX 57502 ($4.73 from Rock Auto) should be equivalent to Napa Gold. From what I've read, it is supposed to be best WIX for filtration, but not for extended OCI, as more potential to clog and enter by-pass mode.

WIX 57502XP ($6.64 from Rock Auto) should be equivalent to Napa Platinum. Supposed to be best WIX for extended OCI applications, with its synthetic filter media.

I agree with others, never Fram.

I found the Motorcraft Oil Filter Cut-Away Comparison very informative, although at least 10 years old:

Subaru boxer turbos are notoriously ******* oil. Redline, motul, Amsoil works well, and even 5w40 Shell Rotella works ok according most oil analysis.

Redline and k&n filters are great for track days romping. I'm Amsoil all the way, but I recommend Redline, Castroil, motul, and Royal purple HPS and XPR as top tier choices as well. Oil analysis across multiple platforms prove they live up to some of they 'boutique' hype.

The stock Motorcraft fl500 are an awesome default choice as well.

Have you tested/run any of the Japanese offerings, such as from the OEMs (Toyota/Mazda in particular) or Idemitsu? They love to add moly, particularly in 0W20 weight, but in higher vis grades also.
