Ok I got the SHO back together today and it starts right up and runs like crap. As most of you know I replaced the waterpump cps and timing belt. The only thing I can think is that I somehow got the timing wrong.

There is like a clacking noise in the cam aeria it idles pretty bad of course

I made sure the white mark was at 0 and both of the marks on the cams lined up with the marks behind the cams

where should the mark on the timing gear behind the crank pulley go? I dont remember 100% but I am pretty sure the dimple at the first of the lower timing marks after the 3.0

I hope this is a good description...How do I figure out what I did wrong? I am so depressed now.

Thanks,
Adam S.

hey i was in your same position, im 18 and i just completed the 60k on my car, did you look at the coil pack and read the numbers? spark plug #five and #6 are swapped on the pack, check that out and see if there correct before you tear it apart

I did not touch the plugs or wires...hehe I wish I were that lucky. I am bummed as **** but I am trying to keep my spirits up

I am just wondering if that clacking noise is typical of incorrect timing

sdpatt, in the 3rd pic down I can not see the dimple in the timing gear to save my soul...should the dimple line up with the 3? if so then I got the timing wrong...I am pretty sure the dimple lined up with the white mark closest to the 3.0l mark.

so that dimple should line directly up with the 3?

My timing belt looked more like the pic below, but I am pretty sure the dimple in the timing gear lined up with the other white mark? So did I screw up bad here?

I worked for 8 hours straight today so I will check the stuff tomorrow....but if I determin the belt is off can i just remove the lower and upper timing cover accessory belts and undo the tension and move the belt till I get it right?

I will of course remove the crank pulley :) heh oh well at least I gapped the cps right

sunny San Juan Bautista,
The dimple should line up with the top white line (the 3.0 liter line). So it sounds like you got it right. If you got the top timing belt marks aligned with the cam sprockets like in Scott's pictures then you have the timing set properly as long as the dimple was aligned with the 3.0 liter white line.

Check your ground connections. This is probably where your problem is. Check the two top bolts that hold the intake end plenum on. The DIS requires a good connection through these bolts for grounding. Check that your DIS module is plugged in tightly on both ends.

If you read the caption on the picture, you will see that the dimple is hard to see, but that it is aligned with the "3.0L" line as should yours have been since you have the 3.0L engine.

I am going to redo the timing belt....I checked my battery cables and stuff....The car just clacks is ass off. That noise really bothers me. When I lined up the marks on the cam sprockets the white mark on the crank pulley came out a hair before the 0 so I am going to redo the belt after my 11 o clock class.
