Hey guys, just bought a tuner today, hopefully gonna get it by the end of the week and slap a gearhead tune on my baby! Only problem is, I'm not sure when to get the tune, I was speaking with one of the gearhead reps and he said I would need to get some codes or something from my car to send them so they can get to work on it. Will I need the tuner to give them complete information or is the info that they need accessible without the tuner?

INB4 I know this is probably a really dumb question but I've never gotten a tune on a vehicle before so I just want to make sure I don't jump the gun by buying the tune then realizing I need info from the tuner to complete the form they need filled out.

You will use the tuner to capture the strategy (software code) that resides in your pcm and then you will send that code in. Do you already have your gapped sp542 plugs and 3 bar map sensor?

I don't have the gapped plugs but the 3 bar map is coming along with the tuner

On the SCT X3 I had, you plugged in the device, went to and selected Strategy Code and it pulled it. Send to Matt like he said and then you'll download the tunes onto your device from your computer to install into the car. It's easier than changing the front brakes. :D

Lmao well if that's the case maybe I'll be able to wrap my head around it. I'll have to run it against the MKS once I get it :burnout:

Yeah it is pretty easy. Learning how to read datalog is interesting on the other hand.

Yeah I've seen some of them and they completely go over my head, maybe once it actually affects me it'll make more sense'

Once you start datalogging you will start seeing stuff. I am by no means a guru, but I can find my way around a log. Once your figure out what you are looking for and how the information correlates, then you will be able to start getting in depth.

Brad from AJPTurbo has been great to work with, and takes the time to explain what is going on.

Yeah he seems like a great guy, I spoke to him back in December but I think I've decided on GH because of their auto adjusting octane tune because I can't find consistent batches of 93 around me.
