Ever since I got my SHO, there's been some rare starting issues that don't happen often enough to worry me, but happen often enough to **** me off. They are as follows:

1. Sometimes when I turn the key to start, it *doesn't*. Nothing; no click, no lights, no nothing. All I have to do is turn it off, and then back on, and it starts up normally. This happens maybe once every couple months, and doesn't seem to happen if I leave the key in 'run' for a second before cranking it. But then again, it happens so rarely that it's tough to troubleshoot.

2. Other times when I crank it, it cranks *really* ******. It turns over strong (not a battery issue), but it sounds crappy (weak, coughing, and sputtering are the only adjectives I can think of). It takes a good 5-10 seconds of cranking to get it to turn over, and after it does, it idles for crap. (RPMs vary between 4-6 hundred, car sort of jerks around). After I goose it for a second, everything returns back to normal. Once again, this only happens once or twice every couple months, and if I stop cranking it, and then try again, it seems to work like a champ.

3. When the temperature drops (sub zero, snow, etc), the car 'squeals' for a second after the car starts. I've seen some discussion of this, and all fingers point to the starter, but no one seemed to have an official answer.

Again, all these issues happen very rarely and don't do much except **** me off. No codes except for an O2 sensor that i'm too lazy to fix. The car runs fan-freaking-tastic 99% of the time, and just on a few occassions do i get these problems. If anybody has any thoughts, or hopefully some fixes, i'd certainly like to hear them.

All of them sound starter related..

I personally would get under there and check the wiring. I didnt check my wiring and had a car wash. The + wires grounded, melted a fusable link and gave me no SHO for a week while I figured it all out.

The wiring could be the main culprit but it does sound starter related. The only other thing I can think of is the ignition module under tha dash maybe coming loose or going bad?

*ehh Didnt realize it was you Redskull... OBviously I dont need to recite my problems as you were the main answer for them!

Good luck on this.

Didnt say what year car you had, but if its a gen 1, look on the drivers side fender for the solenoid. There are 3 wires attached to it, 2 big ones and one little 16 guage wire. The 16 gauge wire is a simple slip on wire that if disconnected completely will give you the symptoms you described in problem number 1. Pull it off and put it back on.

If it still happens, I would start by cleaning all the contacts from the battery, to the starter to the solenoid. Careful when removing the wires from the solenoid as those studs will snap right off as the plastic is very brittle on older cars (ask me how I know).
