This may be a stupid question but at one time I thought all SHO engines up to 95's were the same size. After reading some of these post I am no longer sure. I have a 94 sho automatic trans. My question is what size engine do I have 3 3.1 or 3.2 thanks

'89-'91 are 3.0L, only MTXs

'92 are 3.0L only MTX also

'93-'95 ATXs are 3.2L and MTXs are still 3.0L

'96-'99 ATXs are 3.4L V8s only ATXs....

there are however modified SHOs that have a slightly bigger engine displacements....

Basically, yes...all SHOs from 1989-95 had the same Yamaha-built V6. Ford had the engine bored to 3.2L to provide a bit more torque to spin the torque converter in the ATX cars, though. And of course, there are differences between the 3.0 and the 3.2, like accessory belt routing (2 belts on 3.0 vs. 1 belt on 3.2), timing belt tensioner (spring-loaded on 3.0, hydraulic on 3.2), intake cam lift (3.2 intake cams are milder than 3.0 intake cams), etc.

No they had it bored so 8 yrs down the road enthusiasts could steal them from that platform and retrofit them to 5-speed cars and put a real tranny behind them :)
