I just noticed the left/driver's side speakers basically dont work. It produced some audio, but barely. I dont know the history of the car, the PO said it worked prior to his unfortunate mishap with the tree limb.

I checked the connection in the trunk and they seem to be seated properly. Are there any common causes I should checkeD? I assume the fuses are fine,as they would be on the same circuit. The unit seems to function properly as well.

Stupid question but, have you adjusted the balance on the stereo? Pull the stereo and swap the left speaker wires with the right speaker wires. If the lefts start working and the rights stop working then i would say its time for a new stereo.

Had the same problem.
Tried a host of solutions with no success. After taking some advice, I changed the dash mounted unit, and the problem was gone. Something goes bad inside the radio.
Change the "head unit" and your problem will be gone.

oops.. I forgot to subscribe to my own thread. I was fiddling with this project again and the situation is this:

- no audio from either rear speaker
- no audo from woofer
- drivers door- is real tiny, like a blown speaker, so thats a no brainer

I unplugged the amps- one the audio for the remaining speaker- went out- so that was good- the other- no change- no static- nothing. I dont have a meter to test with, but I would lean towards amps and/or head unit also as someone else suggested. I dont want to start throwing parts at it to just guess- I want to keep this one as standard/stock as possible so I am not crazy about changing the headunnit. The CD player runs the one sole speaker- and the tape and am/fm also run the lone sole speaker- I am not sure about the wiring- but I would guess the CD feeds into the head unit, head to amps and amps to speaker? Sound about right?

Im great with engines, driving, suspension, and most anything on a car- but when it comes to stereos and systems I apparently take a stupid pill.

Tree: The previous owner said a branch fell off of the tree- it smashed the roof, shattered the windshield, and did some hood damage. All repaired, sans the paint job. Sort of a checkered history with this car- its now the second time its been totalled! He got screwed when he bout it from an esteemed "sho repair shop"- Ive spent the last two years fixing what they suppsedly fixed. Grated, they did rebuild it- but silly things like the front clip/bumper- the fog light doesnt fit into one opening, the other, makes it point upward because the stupid thing is warped. They put a 3.8 rad fan into a 3.2 shroud... and its a 3.0 engine- it works, sorta, but the shroud is too small- just silly half @55 work that he paid a premier for. He was also lucky enough to have just had them do the paint job as part of the deal... I would be concerned if I didnt now need another paint job, otherwise the 2500 they charged him- those discount $300- jobs look better! Anyway.. I stop ranting now...

Thanks for the advise- so maybe the thing to do is to try a new head unit (I want one with aux connection anyway), and then work backwards to amps and them speakers- I think speakers need an upgrade anyway- but if blown or something- theyll usually make some sort of noise. I guess its possible that they just simply failed and no noise? And my fellow Irishman- yes- I checked each with fade and balance to make sure

I had the experience where the left side wouldn't work and I traced it down...accidentally to the pins in the gray connector that is for all the speakers, if I pushed it one way, kinda pushed the head towards the cable, the sound worked, if I kinda pulled it back, like opening a top...gently of course, the sound cut out. I taped it in the position that worked and it has been good for a couple months now. This was hooking up a brand new kenwood and infinity system, the cables from crutchfield fit perfectly and everything, but something is hinckey inside that multi-pin plug..just something to check maybe...good luck, it's frustrating for sure

Hmm- that never crossed my mind. That's the on on the head,, ya? IIRC there were 4 connections- antenna, cs, a big one and a little one. O assume the big gets power and is main connector and the smaller one, I dunno pre or something. I'll fiddle with them and see. Seems like the right- rear went out after my last fiddling so it may be something there.

You can get lost in the weeds if too many wires make your mind wander and shut down. However, if you replace components and run your own wires it is very simple and may be a wash or a time saver as far as labor.

That's very true- im trying to keep as original as possible - and likely will replace the head and use an adapter. Same with speakers and sub, use existing g or preserve them at least.
