oops.. I forgot to subscribe to my own thread. I was fiddling with this project again and the situation is this:
- no audio from either rear speaker
- no audo from woofer
- drivers door- is real tiny, like a blown speaker, so thats a no brainer
I unplugged the amps- one the audio for the remaining speaker- went out- so that was good- the other- no change- no static- nothing. I dont have a meter to test with, but I would lean towards amps and/or head unit also as someone else suggested. I dont want to start throwing parts at it to just guess- I want to keep this one as standard/stock as possible so I am not crazy about changing the headunnit. The CD player runs the one sole speaker- and the tape and am/fm also run the lone sole speaker- I am not sure about the wiring- but I would guess the CD feeds into the head unit, head to amps and amps to speaker? Sound about right?
Im great with engines, driving, suspension, and most anything on a car- but when it comes to stereos and systems I apparently take a stupid pill.
Tree: The previous owner said a branch fell off of the tree- it smashed the roof, shattered the windshield, and did some hood damage. All repaired, sans the paint job. Sort of a checkered history with this car- its now the second time its been totalled! He got screwed when he bout it from an esteemed "sho repair shop"- Ive spent the last two years fixing what they suppsedly fixed. Grated, they did rebuild it- but silly things like the front clip/bumper- the fog light doesnt fit into one opening, the other, makes it point upward because the stupid thing is warped. They put a 3.8 rad fan into a 3.2 shroud... and its a 3.0 engine- it works, sorta, but the shroud is too small- just silly half @55 work that he paid a premier for. He was also lucky enough to have just had them do the paint job as part of the deal... I would be concerned if I didnt now need another paint job, otherwise the 2500 they charged him- those discount $300- jobs look better! Anyway.. I stop ranting now...
Thanks for the advise- so maybe the thing to do is to try a new head unit (I want one with aux connection anyway), and then work backwards to amps and them speakers- I think speakers need an upgrade anyway- but if blown or something- theyll usually make some sort of noise. I guess its possible that they just simply failed and no noise? And my fellow Irishman- yes- I checked each with fade and balance to make sure
