I thought I'd post this here as a reference for axle shafts in the sho platform.
(For now this is just a rough placeholder until I gather a bit more information.)
I was getting a bit of vibration in the front passenger side wheel. Quick inspection revealed that the hanger bearing for the intermediate shaft is starting to go south.
Like most Ford components of the years there's been various iterations of the drive axles.

Now for the SEL and lower models. The axle can in some cases be at one piece unit. Meaning the intermediate shaft and the CV axle are manufactured together as a complete unit construction. As far as I can tell. If you need a new CV axle you need a new intermediate shaft. The hangar bracket used for this style of passenger side front axle is different from from the SHO. Due to the larger hanger bearing.

Now for the 2010 to 2012 SHO there has been a update to design of the intermediate shaft that fits into the PTU and uses a hanger bearing at the other end to connect to the CV axle.

More to come on this post as I need to gather some more information. Plus locate a post I found a little earlier about the change in the axles

Did you get any more info on this issue? I have a 2012 PP that is getting the same passenger front driveline vibration you are describing. I have been looking for the parts to replace the axle but Rockauto shows two different designs and FordPartsGiant shows everything discontinued with no succeeding part numbers. I watched a youtube video that mentioned upgrading everything; inner spline shaft, bracket and bearing, in addition to the axle, but they didn't go into much detail. I’m thinking I’ll just start taking it all apart but I have no idea how to get the right parts.

Yes I did get some more info. It just got lost in the shuffle to attend a funeral out west. For the 6F55, it looks like all years can use the updated intermediate shaft. When the install was done on my 2010 MKS they ended up using the original hanger bracket because it fit the new hanger support bearing. The updated half shaft on the passenger side will have to be used with the updated intermediate shaft. It's a different diameter and if I recall different spline count, shaft to shaft. These are the same updated parts, used on the 13 and up SHO.
So you will have to replace intermediate shaft and half shaft on the passenger side at the same time. Just as well chances are that the vibration will have caused slop in the connection between the two shafts anyhow. At least from what I have seen.
If you can source the older intermediate shaft, I would suggest replacing the half shaft as well. With the older version of the half shaft . Just to remove the chance of any vibration due to wear of the splined connection.

Ugh, that intermediate shaft is as expensive as the axle and looks like it is only available from Ford. I can’t find the original shaft anywhere. Thanks for the info.
