SHO died over the weekend, most likely a fuel pump. Mom wants to sell car for 1500, I say I can fix it. Can one person fix a fuel pump? Or does it has to go to a shop? 95 mtx

that depends on how high off the ground YOU can get the car. If my memory serves me right, the fuel pump is inside the gas tank... so you have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump/sending unit.

Your mom wants to sell your 1995 MTX because the fuel pump is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its a small task to replace the fuel pump and you can get a nice brand new 190lph fuel pump of ebay for a relatively small amount of money. Dont sell that SHO!!

It's easier with two people, but I have done it twice alone. Get as much gas out of the tank as possible. Be sure to PB Blast the all the bolts.

I'd suggest you contact Steve, projectSHO89, and see if he'd be available to help you with this repair. He's local and does great work. Part can be had for around $80. No reason to sell the SHO over a fuel pump.

There are several steps which should be performed before condemning the fuel pump.
I do not know what diagnostic tests you have done, but it would be helpful if you summarized your complete set of symtoms and the diagnostic steps you have taken to arrive at the tentative diagnosis of a bad fuel pump.
I would hate to see a car disposed of because of a missed diagnosis.
Oh, wait a minute, the previous owner of my car had been told by her mechanic it had a blown head gasket..... I'm still driving it 20K miles later.
Of course, it was only worth $200 bucks anyway...
If I can be of service in diagosing, repairing, or coaching you in the repair of your car, please feel free to ask.

Ok steve here are the symptoms.
First the throttle wasn't going normally, tach would jump around 1000-3000.
Next the car was throttling up really really really slow.
Now the car will start but RPMs will not go past 1000. And i can't get the car to move.
Ideas?

Here are a couple ideas on what might be causing this (no particular order):
Fuel pressure deficiency: This can be checked with a fuel pressure tester ($40 at AutoZone). If the pressure is too low, the low pressure can be caused by: bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, restiction in fuel line, faulty fuel pressure regulator, insufficient power to the fuel pump due to electical fault in the power circuit for the pump. Each of these can be tested as part of a logical diagnostic procedure.
If fuel pressure is okay, then the problem might be: clogged exhaust system, engine computer problem (DIS, grounding, or one of the sensors or a connector), timing jumped, TPS, vacuum leak, bad ground connection (somewhere).
As you can see, the list of possibilites is pretty large. Diagnostic tests can be made to either narrow down the source of the problem or to exclude certain parts of the system as the problem.
I would suggest, first of all, to check and see if the computer has any codes. With a poorly running engine, the CEL might be on and be trying to provide some important information.
