diff pin

What happens when the diff pin "goes"? Does it slide out of place, break, shear off? What is it made of and does any body have pics of it or exploded tranny diagrams? I'm trying to get any info about this little menace that I can.

But basically there is a roll pin that holds the diff pin into the differential. the roll pin bends and eventually breaks. ejecting the pin out of the diff which destroys the alum case on the way out. You loose all tranny fluid and eventually the gears seize. (not a quick process but happens)
