Hey man, any way to post some pics of it, or email em to [email protected]? Id be interested in doing away with the radio controls, although the clock Id probably keep... Where do you get the 40/40 epoxy, and does is it solid once cured? I would imagine id have to affix some sort of plastic piece first so that the epoxy has something to build off of, right? Thanks for the info man, sounds like a cool idea. :thumb:

Duramix is the brand of the epoxy, I've used it for console mods (I'm an aftermarket sunroof installer) and filling holes on plastic bumpers and such with no problem. I'll try and find out where we order it from. As for affixing it, I just put some duct tape on the back of the bezel behind the clock and radio controls and filled it up with epoxy, then used a razor blade to shave the excess and smooth/shape the top as best I could. After it cured I sanded it and got it smooth. I'll see if I can find the work in progress pics and mail them too you.

Did a little poking around online here is the epoxy I used... http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/...us_aad_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html

Hey man, thanks for the research and information! I plan to do this this week... Where do I get the duramix? Also, could you send me an email or post here of the levels of sandpaper used, etc..? I appreciate the help, and I think itl look great! I think I will do away with the radio switches, and if I decide to put something else in there, I can always do that later with a drill... Thanks man! :hail:

Update: I found the duramix on ebay, it was like $25 shipped for one tube, but I hope its well worth it... I think I will find other uses for it as well, but I do plan on keeping my clock intact.
SO, what levels of sandpaper and wet or dry do I need? Thanks in advance, I cant wait to get this done!

Damn thats a good deal, the shop where I work orders it in bulk and still pays like 30+ a tube, you need ALOT of the needles cuz they are one time use, and the gun thingy to squezze it out. We use that stuff for almost everything ;).. I used a angle grinder to get the big stuff, but I DO NOT recommend that because it will gouge the **** out of the dash if you move the wrong way so I would practice with the epoxy first on something you dont care about, get it as smooth as possible in the first 30 seconds, because after that it gets realllllllllly gooey and lumpy. For sanding, the initial sanding to get the whole dash smooth was done dry with 600 grit, it took a LONG time to get most of the grain out of the bottom part of the dash so patience is key ;)... after that I cleaned it with solvent and glass cleaner and primed it with filler primer that I got at wallmart. From this point on I wetsanded with 800 and primed again, at this point alot of the grain was filled with primer and pretty smooth. I lightly wet sanded with 800 again and then sprayed the first mist coat, wet sanded with 1000, and mist coated again, then LIGHTLY wet sanded it with 1200. First wetcoat, sanded with 1200 and wetcoated again, and wet sanded with 1500 and went on to buffing and polishing, when it gets smooth as glass with 3m polishing compound, I used a light clearcoat and lightly wetsanded it and polished it out.... It over all is a very long process to get it to look right, which mine still isn't right and I'm probably gonna strip it and redo it (there is a little groove that is visible where the line used to be separating the top and the bottom of the bezel) good luck, I'll take some pics with the camera at work on monday...

John (SHO2NV) has this done on his 94 atx... It looks pretty good in his green car:

He switched it to all gloss black, per his cardomain page.

Can't say I'm a fan of the white on grey, though... yuck.

Thanks Chris. :thumb:

This is what it looks like now:

My original plans were to get a brushed aluminum dash kit to put over the gloss black but I never did. I'm undecided if I still want to or not..........

would this stuff work on filling in the lines in the gen I bumpers? i'm trying to find something to use so that i can sand down the black line flush with the body, but i don't want the paint to crack the first time a rock hits it or i bump something.

OKay, where can I get the needles and the gun for this stuff? I should have gone for the big lot of 6 tubes, (could have sold off the excess for more than all of them cost me) just more up front cash I dont have. :bonk:

At O'Reilly autoparts you can pick up needles and supplys and such, thats where my shop orders it all from...

As for using it to fill the lines in the bumper, I have used it to fill drill holes in the bumper cover of a 300c with no problem but those wern't like long lines that have alot of flex, if you scuff it well before you apply it I think it would work, Duramix has a wide line of different mixtures though, so maybe there is one that is more suited for filling body lines....
