Don't pull the intermediate shaft if you don't have to, and if the seal isn't leaking.

Okay so I now got every thing I need. Even a nice Craftsmen torque wrench from Sears that goes up to 250ft lb (was on clearance too!). Now my only worry is the locking c-clip on the intermediate shaft. I have looked everywhere and I can't seem to locate one so I am going in with the hopes that the 25 year old original on the car is still in decent enough shape to be reinstalled back on. But as a fall back can I get another one from something different? I mean something that just fits the diameter of the slot in the shaft in the event the original one breaks or is too weak to be reinstalled again.

you can look at a regular Taurus of similar vintage. I assume there may be a mercury sable equivalent. If in doubt and looking for a used piece, Dan Barbush Sv&HoDan is near Pittsburgh and the PA SHO shop is closer north of Harrisburg. Not sure if Brian (or does he go with the Bryan spelling?) has used stuff like that laying around. Should be plenty of car graveyards in your area if you feel like crawling around

Crawling around is one thing. Trying to wrestle off rusted old junkyard axle parts is not something I want to do.

NAPA CV joint boot kit has the clips included. I'm sure there are other sources.
Okay so there are two listings... Which one is it? The thicker one? or the thinner?
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CTD6862110
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CTD6862108

Also NAPA lists these for just the 1992 Ford Taurus, and not specifically the SHO model itself. Question is will these still fit?

EDIT: Also after a little looking around on their website it seems they still may have the CV axle's as well.

I don't have a specific answer to the above other than regular Taurus axles have been sold as replacements for the SHO for a long time. I think they will fit but I believe they are not as durable. At least oem axles were this way. As for the boot kits, one is for the left and the other is the right side

If you have an existing C-Clip, even if it is broken, you can take the measurements with calipers, and you will be able to buy a new one. They follow a set of rules in shafting design (just like O-Ring glands) and they will be available from fastener/ bearing supply companies.

I would use the old ones, but get some advice on removing them, as there is probably a preferred method.

Well I have seen a few. One is using a prybar and popping it out. Another is a slide hammer with a special end that's specifically meant for removing a drive axle from the transmission.

I was able to go under the car and hit the inside solid end (out towards the wheel) with a hammer and chisel, it didn't take much to pop it loose

Yeah, that's what I was probably going to do. Just some tapping on it after the shaft is out of the spindle. Judging but whats holding it on (mostly nothing but the locking nut on the end, a locking clip and the spindle itself), it shouldn't hopefully take very much to pop it out. I'll know in the next few days. The new control arms come in tomorrow, but I got to work the next few days so I won't have anytime for the car until about mid week. Thanks for all the help and advise. I would't have even attempted this without. And I really want to because I know my local shop will charge me like300-500 just to install them.

Good news! NAPA has the exact part for my SHO. Though you got to buy the entire CV joint kit to get the locking clip for the intermediate shaft. Lol so if I ever need a bag of grease and a boot at least I know I have one now.

I found this on the transmission. They didn't come with these from the factory did they?

congratulations, you are the proud owner of a user-installed drain plug.
since it goes into relatively thin soft metal, do not over tighten it!!!!

Also some bad news...

Control arm that came off my SHO (still has the tension rod attached) and the replacement I got from SHOSource. Notice the difference? Because I do. It seems the ones I got are thinner than the ones already on the car. Now my next question is will they work? I think the guys over at SHOSource need to get in contact with their suppliers because it seems they are not sending the right parts.

Well I think I messed something up. I got everything back together, torqued the hub bolt to 250ft lbs (that's the right amount right?) and then took the car out for a test drive. About half way through the front drivers side started making a screeching or chalkboard like noise. Plus I even smelled something, I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps brakes? I don't think it was the transmission. It felt fine and shifted smoothly. Even though I didn't top it off after putting it back together. Though not a whole lot even leaked out. What could I be looking at?

Check if your brake dust shield got bent such that it making contact with something. I had that when I replaced my axles, its easy to do when you are wrenching things around

Yeah you have to get the car up rotate the wheels and see if you can replicate the noise to make it easier to find. After that you pull the wheel and see if you can see something rubbing. Does it sound like wheel or driveline parts? Maybe the wheel bearing is toast. I would see if it isn't brake area first

It's coming from the wheel is my best guess. That's where I was hearing it from. Like front drivers side. Was 250ft lbs too much? I am not 100% sure I did that much or too much. Should I have just tightened it really good? Was it too much?
