I need a new crankshaft, been holding out saving money. Looks like I held out too long, none available from Standard Crankshaft. I e-mailed and they said they havent received any cores to work on. Anyone have any other sources for a reman. I know I will get a lot of people telling me to take it to a machine shop and have it turned then go buy over sized bearings. I have already done the math and its much cheaper to go reman with the bearings in the kit with a warranty. Just wondering if there are other sources out there that I might try.

Standard Crankshaft is the supplier for RockAuto. Moneys not tight it just had to go to other projects. I hear a lot of people saying just go to the junk yard and buy another engine. To me that seems like a waste of time and money. I go to the jy to find little stuff like hard to find interior items, not an engine. And if it where for an engine it would be for an engine I was going to throw on the engine stand and rebuild anyway. I dont trust the engines in a jy, why else would the car be there in the first place.
I was just making sure I didnt over look any other options to finding a crankshaft by asking you guys. Thanks for all your input.

Think there's any chance that Standard would rebuild a crank you sent them? Probably end up costing the same as a local machine shop that way, though.

Easy, get people to send back the cores instead of selling them for scrap. People on here should be reminded via a sticky up top. Or get a used crank and re-use your bearings.

You could always contact them and ask about sending your own crank in and machined, but the turn around time might be high

Edit: already been suggested, should have read replies

Another option is to have the re-builder offer to buy the cranks from people off the forum for fair market scrap value. How many here have them just laying around because of a spun rod bearing? That way he could get a small supply to sell and if people returned their cores, it would keep it going.

I'm sure lots. I Don't have any laying around because of spun bearings myself, but have 3 from good running engines when cars were parted for rust or collision.

Found one. Funny story, Went down to the Ford dealership to talk to some of my buddies. They asked how the SHO was coming along. I told them my story about the crank, then one of my friends got on his phone and walked away. He came back 5 minutes later and told me to talk into the phone. I said "Hello" the voice at the other end was a very nice man that asked me if I was need of a crank, I said yes, then he said how about a whole 3.2. Long story short, I know have an engine with 28K on it from an ATX that was rear-ended and totalled. The guy had it in his garage and was going to put the engine in something and never got around to it. He was just happy that engine was going to a good home.
