i think my IMRC is shot. haven't looked at it, but my secondaries aren't opening.

i just got home from autozone having my codes read, and the only thing that came up was a "idle air control sensor malfunction".

does this in any way relate to the imrc or my secondaries not opening?

thanks in advance,
mike

How do you know they aren't opening? If the car is in park or in neutural you have to watch the linkage behind the waterpump pulley when you rev it up. Since the car has a 4000 RPM rev limiter while it is parked you will see it open the secondaries just before it hits the limiter.
On a side note try cleaning the plug and the secondary air unit before replacing it first. Main problem would be no or difficult idling.

There's no change in sound, no linkage moves, and the car's faster from 2500-3500 then it is from 5000-6000. :)

I don't now what plug or secondary unit you're talking about, but i'll research it and see what i can come up with. on a side note, you're my hero. make more videos. :)

thanks for the helps guys.

I just had that problem. luckly I have an aftermarket warranty. If you don't have one stay away from a Ford Deaker. The cost to get my IMRC replaced was $405. I was told that it was pretty simple to do yourself and you save major cash. Choose "display topics from the past 20 days, and click on the Service Engine Light topic" it will give you good amounts of information.

is there an easy way to put the clip on? i've been messing with it for about an hour, i have a coathanger holding the secondaries open so the peg is easier to get to, but i still can't get it on.. any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.. thanks in advance

got it!! i took a coat hanger and put a SMALL hook at one end to hold the secondaries "open", then wrapped the other end of the coathanger around the bracket to hold the wiring harness off of the valve cover. then i had two hands to work with and it was a piece of cake.

:)

edit - did anyone else's not bolt up to the original plate right? i just have mine zip-tied down for the moment, but would like a much more "permanent" solution if anyone knows what i'm talking about.

If you DARE go to a dealership, you can order a bracket for the new IMRC. They'll charge you about $25 for a simple bracket with three holes in it.
This is the interesting thing- when I ordered a replacement IMRC to replace mine that was crapped out, they said that the new part required a bracket that was an additional $25. I had already taken the thing apart and figured I could rig something without giving any more money to the rip-off-ship (dealership). Well, when I went to replace the thing, it mated right up to the existing bracket.

So, I'm thinking that either they were made with the bracket after a certain build date or mine had already been replaced once.
Regardless, I hate giving ANY money to a dealership. I have had nothing but bad, no make that horrible, experiences with them.

OK, sorry for the complaints on the side rant

I'm here...

I can pull one of those brackets if that is what needs to be done. Hopefully they didn't change the mounting points on the ewer boxes.

Scott
