Symptoms of plugged PCV???

This is coming off a previous message where I described Dirty Girl just dying after about 30 minutes of run time . . . that was months ago.
Well, taking her in this morning for the yearly checkup for trans warranty, the same thing happened on the way home, but this time without coolant shooting out the side of the degasser. Waiting about a half hour, restarted and made it home.

I was racking my brain trying to think of what could be causing this, and the only thing I could come up with is that maybe my pcv con can has gotten plugged. Do these symptoms fit this possibility? I have loooong hoses down to the can in front of the driver's side wheel well. I unscrewed the plug and not a drop came out. I haven't changed oil in a while so either oil has rendered all vapor by now, or the can is plugged.

BTW, the can was designed with 2 chambers: moist air in through steel wool, then back up to intake. I open the drain plug after car has been running a while, especially after oil change (the can was like a $13 thing off ebay or Amazon). I'll disconnect hoses and try to clear them out if needed. I've had my secondary shafts gone for years now so the con can may be a moot point.

Sooo this site below seems to be describing EGR system, not PCV, am I right? I believe the PCV draws from the crankcase using intake vacuum.


Last symptom they list is an engine stall . . . "This is because the engine cannot get rid of the fumes produced, and they build up in the cylinders."
Ehh??

If any doubt, change the PCV valve. Make sure the hoses are clear. With a catch can there are 3 hoses. Intake (near air filter) to valve cover (opposite from PCV valve), PCV to catch can and catch can to intake.

Yeah, I guess to fully recover all vapor, you'd also pull from VCs, but I'm just setup to intercept from the CC.

The V8 SHO PCV is setup a little different than I described above. Regardless, if you think the PCV system is your problem, change the PCV valve and make sure the hoses are clear.

In my experiences, that #10 hose likes to split and it is just about impossible to locate a replacement or fabricate a substitute.

This is the setup I made (below) . . . While car was running, I unscrewed the bottom drain and there was pretty good vacuum still! That was good. I have the can loose now. Shot a bunch of wd40 into the drain plug then resealed, and while shaking it, I could tell that the steel wool had likely turned to a wad of rust. Not sure if I'll be able to pull it all through the drain, but if not, I'll hacksaw the bitch open again, remove the rustball, clean up as needed, then re-epoxy it closed. I regret adding the steel wool - not sure what I was thinking. A synthetic mesh mighta been better, but nothing at all would be best I suppose. (my con can with the drain plug looks like something else - not by design!)
