ok today i was driving home and my car just quit running, i pull off to the side of the rode and sit for a hour and it still does not start so i have it towed home, i checked and i had fuel pressure just no spark. this happened at around 4 in the afternoon, i just went out side at like 11pm to see if the car would start, and what do you know it does, it started right up. i ran the codes on the car and came up with nothing. does any one know what would cause this?? thanks for the help

crank position sensor probably. located behind the crank pulley. about 45 bucks to replace. you will need to rent the harmonic balancer puller to do this job. probably take you a good 3 hours maybe.

yeah, but wouldn't i get a code for the cps? and wouldn't there be other symptons for the cps, like hard starting or something? i mean the car was running just fine before it stopped.

on our other sho when the cps went it gave a code and ran like crap... thanks for the suggestion tho, i just hope it is not the cps

There are failure modes of the CPS that don't set codes. Your failure sounds like the CPS. Did the tachometer drop to zero when the engine cut out even though the engine was still spinning? That would confirm that it was the CPS.

yes they did drop, but when we tried to restart the car the tach was working even though the car did not start...

I had same problem with my 93. My neighbor who is a ford mechanic with 45 years exp. could not find the problem when he put it on the ford scanner. It would not show a code. I had this problem for about four months, finely it sent a code for the ignition system. After some testing of equipment on my car my neighbor and I decided that it was the cps. Changed it car ran fine. It took us about 4.5 hours to change it.

Good Luck!!! :D
