Does the SHO have bigger rotors than the SEL? I see the SE comes with 17" wheels. I never really checked caliper clearance before I ordered 18" wheels for the winter because it looked like an enormous amount of space in there. I looked up Taurus specs and the front rotors were 12.4" while the rears where 13.0"... curious. It didn't break out different models in that spec.

i was looking at my car on the lift today with the 20's and looked to be maybe only a lil more than an inch for 18's, but from the back, you can see the wheels actually angle up from the inside, i'm thinkin 17's will fit, and i don't think the brakes are any diff

Thanks Terry. I looked at a picture of the wheels I ordered, the rim looks pretty flat. Hopefully they'll be fine.

They should fit no prob. They are the same rotors and calipers no all 2010 Tarii. The base models have 17"s and they have plenty of space.

edit: Found a pic of a 2010 with the 18's on it:

Since the rear rotors are the larger ones, we need to make sure they fit 1st and if you look closely, you can see the silver caliper has a pretty good gap to the inside of the 18" wheel. So yours should be no prob.

Very good. I should be getting them any day now. The TPMS kit I got from American Muscle turns out to be all genuine Ford parts, except for the mounting bands. They're just a big worm type hose clamp. The Ford replacement mounting band is also a worm type thingy, but a bit better quality.

Get some 20s with some 15x1.75" rotors on double six *** calipers mounted to a special dual-caliper bracket.. You should stop totally fine! :)

CORRECTON! I happened to see a 2010 Taurus with the wheels in the picture I posted earlier and after reading the tires, those are 18"ers, however I know the base wheels are still 17", so they still should fit. The calipers had plenty of room with 18"ers too, BTW. (Corrected info in previous post as well).

how thick are they? how much air gap in the vane area?

C5 are 12.8x1.25 w/ a .660" air gap and I go through them like food stamps in a housing project. With similar hp and 1,400 lbs LESS weight :)

18" wheels in terms of dia, will give you all the brake you need. spoke clearance is another matter (very wheel specific)

Thanks for checking Josh. I won't be getting my wheels until later next week... one of the wheels the manufacturer sent them had the wrong bolt pattern  Oh well. Here's what I'm getting.

edit: I added a picture with the wheels and smoked headlights photoshopped

had to go by the ford dealership today to order a part for a Focus i am working on. they were pulling a white SHO into the showroom as i was pulling up to the parts dept. I know one of the techs there, not much doing in the service dept so we both went and looked at the SHO for awhile. this is actually the first one I have seen up close. I still can't get over how tall they are!

stock wheel to caliper clearance isn't much. They wheel spokes did tend to splay out at the barrel of the wheel, gaining a bit more clearance, but there still wasn't much there. you *might* could get a narrow body 4 or 6 *** in there, but it would require some thin pads (anybody get a measurement on the rotor width yet?)

another thought is where in the world will you find 18" race tires that tall? I'll have to start poking around.

interior looks pretty nice

I ordered the wheels from WheelsNext.com, they're Primax 685s, 18" x 7.5", $141 a piece. The tires I got were Blizzaks 225/60R18s. They got an H speed rating (130 mph) and have the exact same revs/mile as the Michelin Primacy MXV4 245/45R20s. I got the Blizzaks at the Tire Rack for $140 a piece. I got a TPMS kit from AmericanMuscle.com, $150. The sensors and the ID tool are genuine Ford parts. The wheels won't be here for another week.

Ok, I was just checking out the stock of new SHO's at another local dealer near my new place (which they had quite a few BTW) and they had a few base SE Taurii there too with the 17's (235/60R17 specifically) on them and I just happened to have my camera, so we can finally see that a 17" is as small as you can go to clear the brakes, but anything equal or greater than that should be A-OK.

Front wheels:

Rear wheels (which appear to have smaller rotors than the front, contrary to what was previously stated):

Higher Res versions of both pics available on my Flickr page.
