On 93 ATX:

I had a BOO code, and my shifter came out of park anytime (key out, on, etc). I replaced the BOO, no code anymore. BUT, I can still shift out of park anytime. All fuses are good. My cruise does not work, so I wondered if both problems could be from my cruise deactivation switch under my master cylinder. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

The BOO switch's output is used only to release the shift lock, it doesn't have anything to do with locking it.

There is a mechanical cable that runs from the column to the console that is supposed to lock the shifter when the key is in the LOCK position. It is also supposed to allow the key to be turned to the LOCK position only when the shifter is in the PARK position.

Electrically, the shift lock actuator is engaged when the ignition is first turned to RUN or START and the brake is not depressed. It is released (or not energized) if the BOO switch signal is present.

The cruise situation is a separate issue. Have you had your SCDS recall performed yet?

I guess I need to pull console out and have a look at the cable you mention. I have only had the car a couple of months, and don't know what recalls may have been addressed. Will ford still address these recalls? If there is any way to tell if this recall has been done, please advise. I'll let you know what ripping the console out yields..........Thanks for your help!
