hey guys i just joined this site. i bought a 92 SHO with manual tranny this past fall knowing it had a blown headgasket. i just now started working on it because it just got warm enough to. well my question to you guys is would it be worth me fixing it? i got it real cheap and was just gonna buy it for a quick turnaround sale. it has 130,000 miles on it. it also need front seats reapolstered, front windshield, and the back brakes are locked up. i can get all the parts cheap b/c my bro is a mechanic and gets then cheaper. i found out the the whole headgasket kit will be around $350, thats when i starting thinking about just selling it as is or parting the car out. what do you guys think i should do?

thanks in advance
Pete

napaonline.com sells the 3.0 DOHC head gasket set for 150. RCM Automotive sells the set for around 175, IIRC.

depending on how long the car was driven with a blown headgasket would give a better insight on repair costs. motors can be rebuilt for 500, or bought used for 100.

well i dont know how long it was driven. i bought it from a used car dealership my bro worked at. some lady bought it then gave it back when it blew. i looked at napaonline and the whole kit is $454. i just dont know if its worth me fixing. my bro told me to replace all the gaskets, is that true?

Some of the other gaskets you might need to replace but you would just need to replace the headgaskets. Are you sure it is the head gasket as it is rare to blow a head gasket.

Even if you want to replace everything you can get the parts cheaper. You can try RCM and they have a 3.0 upper gasket set for $270: Here

I think it would be a good reason for a 3.2 swap though.

itd be a good reason for a swap, but i cant really afford to have 2 cars. lol. yeah thats what i said when the guy told me it was a blown headgasket. when it starts theres a lot of white smoke coming out the exhaust. my bro said it was a blown headgasket so thats what im going by. if its not and theres more stuff wrong with it then it will be a learning experience and i will part the car. what else could it be if theres a lot of white smoke comin out?

whoa, my apologies, i wasnt aware the prices had gone up so much. the head gaskets alone can be bought for fairly cheap.

if youre looking for a quick turnaround sale, your money is on dropping a used motor in it then selling the bad motor on Ebay.

I would not drop much money into that car. You wil not get much for it even in good running order unless it is perfect inside and out.

definately try to rebuild it, then go for a ride. then see if you want to get rid of it.

I purchased the intake set from Napa for about $50, the lower set from RCM at about $75, and the head gasket for about $50. I am missing a couple gaskets, like some of the water outlet housing gaskets and the t-stat gasket, the valve cover gaskets and the like, but it's not a bad deal to get all of them and replace them.
