Well it dawned on me today... 128012 miles... that I didnt know if the trans filter has ever been changed. So I went out and got me one of thsee, some mercron v oil and a qt of lucas trans oil just in case I need it.

My old filter

Overall the pan didn't have any debris on it and the catch magnet was very clean as well.. just a little bit of fine stuff on it.

I'm about to test drive it. And I've let it idle through the gears already :)

Oh it does my friend. And in 10000 MI. I'm going to change it again just to get some newer fluid in the system. :)

Nothing wrong with that idea at all. After a couple of times you can then go back to a more normal change routine, though I would continue to change the filter ever time you change the fluid. I do, anyway.

I looked at the new oil filter pic. I wish I could see what color the plastic ring adapter was. The one where the stem goes up into the tranny.

Green color = not good. Orange color = good. I think it all comes down to filter stem length.

OP - Do you happen to recall which color filter stem adapter came with your filter?

I am pretty sure it was dull black last time, Eric. I am not buying mine at Ford, though. I get them at LordCo, a big parts supplier. No idea where they get them from.
