Ok in previous thread I told about my ATX tranny just not working after 6000 miles on a rebuilt from ford that was 3 weeks ago. Now since it is ford warranty they have to tear it down and have an inspector look at and see if it gets approved. Is there anything to worry about? The ford dealership i took it too said it was the plantery gears and so forth. I never heard of a tranny going out after 6000 miles and I am just worried that ford is going to try and dick me over.

I shattered the planetary on my Monte Carlo's TH350 30 days after installing. It was a reman'd unit also. I ended up going to a built TH200-4R & getting my OD back. The shift kit I had them install had me barking the tires on the shifts unless I just-about idled through them. :thumb:

Lasted me well over a year of 300hp 350 to 3.73 Posi enjoyment until I sold the car. You never know, I guess.

If it is a Ford Reman unit, then they should just swap it out with another. The only reason that they would tear the unit down is if they were trying to prove that you did something to it. If it was re-built at the dealership, then they will have to rebuild it again.

Just to be curious, what was your warranty. If it was 3 years, then it was a Ford reman. If it was along the lines of 12 months, then I would think that it was re-built in the shop.

There is no reason that a Ford Rep needs to look at your exchange transmission, and hold your car there while he plays around with your transmission. Also, if it is an exchange from Ford, why are they taking your unit apart? Just swap it...

I would be fearful that something is not right. Good Luck. And for my own personal interest, keep me posted.

it is a ford reman with the 3 yr warranty 36 thousand miles. That is what I don't get either. Why are they inspecting it and tearing it down.

I would think that one of 3 things are happening. #1 Would be that they are having a hard time getting a reman, and they are just stalling you by telling you that they need to tear it down. #2 They think you killed it on purpose, and they are looking inside to see if anything reveals itself. #3 They are going to try and patch your reman at the shop. And just waiting on parts.

Have you actually gone and looked at the car. Is the transmission out and apart?

That could be true that they are having a hard time finding a reman.....cause when I called myself they kept saying that everything was through paper work and it wasn't in the computer and that was week before turkey day and of the week of turkey day.....then they said the week after thanksgiving transmission technician was in class for the work and would not be able to work on it. Then I had them call Matthews Ford (original installers) because my dad is such a good customer they gave me a loaner car. I called the service manager and he said what was the problem again they couldn't find a reman unit, then i told him about the technician and he was like oh.....so stalling is your probably right....SHO #7 if you want give me a call since you are transmission guy I can tell you what happened and how it happened......I will leave my number in your pm inbox. Name is matt by the way

If the tranny cooler and lines had garbage or dirt left in them the reman tranny could be damaged. Dirt left in the lines voids the warranty. Thats the kind of stuff they will be looking for. It shifts the responsibility from rebuilder to installer.
