a/c line removal for heater core

got everything out and ready to pull the heater core except the a/c lines....neather will budge with the tool

on sho pheonix it says the bottom line is 5/8 and theres no way.....anyone no whats goin on before i literally play target practice on this car

I tore up a set of plastic AC tools trying to get these off. A metal set worked better. I oiled the business end of the metal tool with some AC oil. Slid the tool in under the collar, pushed/pulled until I was sure the edge was under the spring, rotated 180 degrees to ensure it was free, then pulled the line out.

Not sure on the sizes, but both were in the set I got from Autozone.

I am going to need to know how to do this also, for when I change mine on my 94 MTX.

All you really need to do is get them to wiggle.... that being said... you have to unbolt most of those lines so you can get them to twist a bit. The biggest thing I thought was the issue was getting my hands in the right spot... easiest was laying across the motor for me... intake removed.

You should be able to pull the lines towards u a little if you get them off the inside of the "doghouse". Once you get them to wiggle a little it'll go easy. Push them inwards a little towards the "tool", then pull out...



Edit: Now that I think about it... I couldn't get the lower one by myself... I had a friend come over and wiggle it / push / pull it while I snuck the tool in from under neath the car, one arm on each side of the subframe if you can visuialize it...

thnx for the responses.....i got agitated and brought out the trusty hacksaw (a/c system is dead anyways)

spent id say close to 45 min tryin at it and said screw it.....lol

lol cut the hoses didnt ya? lol I did the same on my 92.. that thing was just too rusty to give up. I was dedicated enough to do it the right way when I got the 93.. :)

i did mine maybe a month or so back (the heater core) we also had trouble with the AC hoses. i think in the end we moved the hose as much as possible and used pb blaster or something to **** it up (giggity) and it came off easy. i wouldnt of minded cutting the lines n removing the AC all together cuz now i gotta find someone with R12 cuz i want the colder one haha

The only time I have pulled those lines off at the firewall was with the engine out during an atx->mtx conversion, and they were a pain then, so I'm sure they are challenging with the engine there. I have a set of metal tools, and what I have to do is **** them, then use a pliers to push the metal ring under the spring - the trick is getting the locking spring to ride up over the tool, once that happens, the line will come right off.
