anybody have any ideas how to permanently disable/eliminate the PATS system? Need this car to be
trustworthy to go to the Ford Nationals at carlisle!

Well, you have to tell the computer (ECU) that PATS is not installed. So only can be done through a tune. Only need a single item needs be changed.
Assuming thats the problem. I recall mine wouldn't start when I was working to get new keys. But that could depend on the firmware, which I believe changed in 98/99 ECU's.
