I'm new to the SHO scene and have a question for you veterans... I just bought a 93 ATX, the guy i bought it from said it needed engine work(he had no idea what was wrong with it.), so i thought i would give it a shot. Here's the deal, I when I tried to start it the other night it would crank but not start (I have spark and fuel pressure) On the third or fourth attempt to get it started It backfired out of the intake(I'm guessing as it came from the engine compartment) Is this the crank sensor problem or has it jumped time. It seems a little slugginsh when i try to start it as well.If it has jumped time are these interference(SP) motors? Thank you in advance for any help!

Since you have been able to try to start it, I think it should have stored some codes by now. Run your KOEO codes (obviously you cant do KOER yet) and see what they say. HTH.

They are not interference motors. Does the tach jump up while cranking? Have you tried to pump the gas pedal and/or hold it to the floor while cranking for 10 seconds?

More feedback one what the car is actually doing while cranking is helpful :thumb:

More details on history of car??? How many miles?, maintenance?

My guess is that you are out of time. But that is just a guess at this point.

Run the codes, they can be very helpful. Do a search and you will find out how to run them. All you need is a paperclip, notepad, and pen. You can then look them up on www.midwestsho.com or a few other places and they will tell you what they mean.

Wasn't watching the tach, but i'll try again. While I was flooring it is when it backfired, but it sounded like it was trying to start. I'll get more details tonight when I try again...Thanks for the replies and help.

Hehe, yeah I wouldn't put the timing belt neglect past him, I'll check it..Although the plug wells look clean and there is no leakage.I'm gonna give it good look over today, and keep ya posted.
