Do you hear the relay click on for the fuel pump, or the fuel pump engage? I had a bad IRCM(intermintent relay control module, i think.) and sometimes my car would start without any trouble. Then other times I couldn't get it to start at all it would just turn over but never start. And it turned out that the fuel pump wasn't getting power past the relay because the relay was fried.

Or if you get no clicks or anything it could just be a bad start relay.

I had the same problem I thought it was the batt. then then the alt. then something major. Turned out it was just the connection at the batt post. With the door open and the key on loosen the batt. conn. and wiggle it near where the cable meets the postconnector. If thats the problem you should get spark and hear the door chime. I just found that sweet spot and tightened it down no problems since.
